This topic is for discussing the effort to translate Phantasy Star: Deluxe Edition. I will update this post as new info is available in the future.
English Translation
You can find the latest patch here: Phantasy Star: Deluxe Edition English
The script used in this patch is based on the script from the original English Phantasy Star release. However, there are some changes from that script. Most of these are due to internal code differences of the game. A few lines of dialogue have special handling issues that make it necessary to rephrase those lines.
One example of that would be the result of the Trap spell when no trap is present. The second line of the generic "there's nothing special here" search message is also used on the Trap result, so both messages had to be reworded in order to avoid some nonsense like "There was no trap. anything special about it."
Some characters also have increased or decreased dialogue in the Chinese mobile version compared to the English Master System script. A means of adding or removing lines to specific characters has not yet been determined, so sometimes it was necessary to trim down or expand the original English lines to fit the available space for a given character's dialogue.
Some grammar corrections have been made to the script, but not in cases where the grammar is meant to represent patterns of speech.
This version allows item, spell, and enemy names to have longer lengths than the Master System. This advantage has been in many cases.
Text Dumps
Here is most of the text from the Chinese version of the game. It includes item names, monsters, and most dialogue (a few lines are omitted).
PS Deluxe Text Dump --- Google Translate of the Text Dump
I used these as a guide to determine where the English text needed to be inserted. Some of Google's version makes little sense (perils of using automatic translation), but it does help a lot.
Translating to Other Languages
I cannot translate the game to any language other than English. However, if a translation to another language is provided to me, I can insert that into the game. Details on that are included in the English patch download.
Other Notes
Also of some interest is that many of the images within the game use English names, some of which differ from previous translations. I have not used any of these in the patch, but I thought some of you might find them interesting.
