Saw an interesting article entitled "14 big brands falling from grace" and gave it a look see but was very surprised to find that our beloved Nintendo is on the list. Looking a bit farther and also saw that Sony was on the list. Sony is involved in lots more than video games however so it might apply to other areas, etc. Still I thought this was worth a mention:

I don't find it surprising that Nintendo is on the list, for obvious reasons. Sony on the other hand is more of a surprise. Sony is the kind of company that has a lot of ups and downs though. Sometimes they are booming, and other times they are losing money like crazy. I think that their game division has been pretty strong as of late, and the PS4 is going to be a big boost for them if things go the right way with the launch.

Keep in mind that Sony dables in a lot of other industries besides games, and it's probably hard to have them all succeeding at one time. I'm sure it's possible to pick apart a company like Sony at any given time for some reason or another.

A company like Microsoft is much more stable, with their business server licenses alone. Microsoft's game division could fold tomorrow, and it wouldn't mean crap to them.

The biggest surprise on the list to me is Intel. I thought Intel was kicking some serious butt in the processor wars. AMD has not been relevant for a long time now.

I also hope that Nokia makes a comeback now being owned by Microsoft. I just got a Nokia Lumia 1020, and it's a pretty awesome smart phone, with a sick camera.

Nintendo being on there isn't a big surprise, since the WiiU just isn't doing too well, and it seems that within the gaming community as a whole, there's a sense that Nintendo abandoned the core gaming audience. Maybe the holidays will turn it around, but I don't know.

Nintendo being on the list is no surprise at all. For as successful as the Wii was, its sales really fell at the end of it's retail cycle. The Wii U isn't doing much better as it stands. About the only thing that is succeeding, IIRC, is the 3DS, but the handheld market by itself will not save a big company. Period.

As for Sony I have heard various reports on this, and a lot of those came from Gamasutra. Apparently while their games division is somewhat sluggish, especially with the Vita/PSP side, it's there home TV market that seems to be their biggest let-down, IIRC.

Actually you might be surprised by how well the 3DS sells in Japan alone. It destroys everything else there. Nothing else is even close.

Geez, I knew that little thing sold well, but not THAT well. And heck, the Vita is in 2nd spot. Sheesh!

Still though, as well as it sells in Japan, I have to wonder the current sales trends in America/Canada and Europe.
