When plotting the cutscenes of Phantasy Star IV, the staff at Sega drew references by hand before creating them as 16-bit, sprite based gaming graphics on a computer. In this example, we can see two views of Rika. In the upper sketch, she leans out the door of the Landale as it hovers over Chaz and Rune. A joyful expression crosses her face as the wind lifts her hair. The lower sketch does not appear to have been used during the game.
