When plotting the cutscenes of Phantasy Star IV, the staff at Sega drew references by hand before creating them as 16-bit, sprite based gaming graphics on a computer. In this example, there is a focus on Chaz as he watches the space ship Landale lifting up into the sky. All three of these sketches, which display more detail than the final game scenes, relate to that. Rune is also here, watching Chaz's reaction with a bit of a smile, another detail the small game graphic was not able to provide.
