Hugh Jackman hosts Oscars

Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Fri Dec 12, '08, 7:54 pm

Actor Hugh Jackman (Wolverine-"X-Men", and People Magazines' 2008 Sexiest Man Alive) will host the annual 81st Academy Awards show this year where they hand out the Oscars for best performances, etc.

Jackman has previously won an Emmy in 2005 for hosting The Tony Awards show the year before.

Jackman's star really seems to be shining and taking off again. He just recently starred with Nicole Kidman in the movie "Australia". I wonder if he has plans to do any more "X-Men" movies or such?????

There's a spin off of the X-Men series coming out next year. I think trailers are coming out for it very soon. It's called X-Men Origins: Wolverine or something like that. Three guess who is the star of that. ;)

Anyway, I'm surprised by this announcement. Don't they usually get comedians to host this thing?

Yeah, I think they do most years. I remember that Billy Crystal did it for years, then stopped, and then returned one year. I think Dave Letterman has done it, and Ellen DeGeneres, and Whoopi Goldberg, along with others. I think they are running out of good choices, people who are really funny, and probably people who don't want a looooot of money to do it, etc., etc., etc., and they probably just wanted a change and someone different.

I was surprised to read that Jackman has hosted The Tony Awards a few times so he must be experienced and good at it to since he won an award for doing so himself. Also with his popularity at an all time high right now, he's probably the best person they could have gotten for the job.

Did anyone watch "The Oscars" last night???? I only saw part of it, and part of Hugh Jackman's opening song number, but what I did see...he was terrific!!!

If I find a video of his number anywhere online, I'll post it here.

Of course, he had a line about him being "Wolverine" in the song.

I watched that last night. I mostly just watched the beginning performance which was good. There was another part that was good too. I'll try and find it.

[EDIT] I just posted the video that has it in the Heath Ledger topic.
