Retro Gamer is a modern gaming magazine launched in 2004 and dedicated to covering the classic games of years past. Originally published by Live Publishing, the magazine was transferred to Imagine Publishing following the closure of the former company. Based in the United Kingdom, Retro Gamer is published world wide.

Pages 16 and 17 are dedicated to a retrospective article on the history of the Phantasy Star series. All of the games are mentioned in some form, except for the Phantasy Star II Text Adventures. The introduction of Phantasy Star Online's MAGs is incorrectly attributed to Phantasy Star IV. Phantasy Star Ø is compared to the original Phantasy Star and Phantasy Star Online titles.
