Phantasy Star MegaDrive Manual

Several years ago an auction featuring the rare Japan-only MegaDrive release of Phantasy Star appeared on eBay. In an effort to quell doubts about the authenticity of the auction, the auctioneer posted scans from the manual. Since scans like these were not available anywhere else after some time had passed, they were archived here.

Page 14 describes how to use part of the menu system. Page 15 pictures a LandRover and describes how to use the vehicle. A nice piece of artwork featuring the heroes of the game also appears. This artwork appears on different pages in other versions of the manual.

This two page spread describes the combat screen. A large, nice piece of artwork featuring Odin spans the lower portion of page 17 and half of page 16.

These pages appear to be an introduction to the Algo system. A map of the solar system and a map of Palma appear on page 18. Page 19 features maps of Motavia and Dezoris.

The ever important explanations of what buildings look like and what they are cover these pages. Myau artwork can be seen on the bottom of page 21.

Here we have introductions and descriptions of the various types of weapons, armors, and shields. Very nice artwork accompanies the descriptions.

More item explanations are found on page 24. There is artwork with these explanations, as well.. Page 25 looks as though it may be an explanation of some spells and the magic system of the game. Artwork of Noah casting a spell on a dragon is also on this page.

Both of these pages contain illustrations of some enemies. Appearing on the top, from left to right, are: Hellex, Killer Plant, Vampire, Dezorian, and Dark Marauder. On the bottom we see Motavian Nof, Sharkin, Robot Police, and King Saber. Thanks to Jack Power for translating these names. Jack says Nof is pronounced with a "long 'o' in 'Nof,' like 'oaf.'"
