Commentary: First version of the FAQ, I'll probably update it once or twice after I explore a few more details, but other than that, not much to say. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Questions & Answers ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: What is Today's Rate? A: It is an online-only mission listed under "Famitsu Cup" in the Hunter's Guild. This mission is for Phantasy Star Online Version 2 players only. Q: What's the point of this mission? A: Well, for one, it's a very interesting mission to say the very least, and it's also the only means of converting a version 2 monster part into a usable weapon. Q: I keep hearing people say that you can get %s on monster parts. Is this true? A: Yes it is, and you can actually convert version 1 monster parts in this quest as well. Offline, Dr. Montague would always convert the parts into weapons with no %s, but online, he can give the weapon %s. Q: Where is Dr. Montague in this quest? A: He's standing at the far end of Pioneer 2, near the check room. Q: G0T NE FR33 P4RTS?????? A: Leave me alone. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Requirements ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I. You MUST have a monster part. You will NOT get a free weapon. This mission does not give free monster parts either. Just thought I'd make this clear. II. You MUST have Dr. Montague "unlocked" offline. What this means is, you must have befriended Montague in the offline game mode in order for him to acknowledge you online. If Montague says, "Hmph. Hmph." in this mission then you have not done so yet. To unlock Dr. Montague, you need to beat only 5 missions. You will need to have the areas from Forest - Ruins in order for this to work. Beat the missions "The Missing Mag", "Claiming A Stake", and "Battle Training" first. Once this is done, several missions will open up. Next, scroll down and beat the mission "Secret Delivery". Finally, the mission "Doc's Secret Plan" will open up. Beat it, and you will befriend Montague. To verify this, go into the mission "Dr. Osto's Research" and talk to Montague. He will tell you to bring him monster parts to convert into weapons. Do NOT believe the assumptions across the internet that you need to beat all the offline missions. This is not true. If you WANT to do that, go ahead, it won't hurt to clear them all, but you only need to clear those 5 missions that I listed above. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Walkthrough ----------------------------------------------------------------------- You will start in Caves 2. You will quickly enter a room with a red fence gate, surrounding a warp, the room shaped like a Y. Take a left and head straight into the waterfall room. You will need to return to this warp later. Just keep running straight on until you reach the portal to Caves 3. In Caves 3, just explore it all. You will eventually run into a machine that shrinks your character. When you are small, you will need to run all the way back to Caves 2. While small, you can now run right under fence gates, as well as walk through tiny crevices, but you cannot use any techs at all. It is suggested that you play with at least one other person, one staying small, one large, with the smaller one preferably being an android since they already can't cast techs, and the larger one being someone who can jam on Resta when needed. Back in Caves 2, while in small form, go under the red fence and enter the warp. On the eastern side of Caves 2, there is a hidden portal behind a fence that can only be shut down by a person in large form. If you are by yourself, use a telepipe to go to Pioneer 2, and then come back down to turn yourself large again. The hidden portal looks like a spinning vortex of white balls that you can see only up close. Take this portal, and it will put you in Caves 3 again. Kill all the monsters in the room that you just got teleported to, and then head south. In this room with boxes, there is a woman whom you need to talk to. She will ask you to help her find a microchip. Answer that you will help her, and then head back to the shrinking machine in Caves 3. When little again, make your way to the teleporter to Mines 1. The teleporter to Mines 1 is in the Northeastern most part of the map. If you are by yourself, make sure to stay in little form. If there are several people, at least one person should stay little. In Mines 1, in the first room, a small person will need to run under the red fence, as there is no switch to turn it off. You will need to head west a great deal. Eventually, you will reach a room with a warp next to the wall, and a red fencegate opposing it, with an area in the center that has nothing in it. The microchip is there, but you cannot get it until you destroy the Host Computer first. Set a telepipe just in case anything happens, and take the warp. After a little bit more of exploring, you will run into the Host Computer, fun to bust up. When you are finished demolishing, head back to where you set the telepipe. Cross the red fence, and you will see a shiny object. Grab it, and you will have the microchip. *** IMPORTANT NOTE: Only the person who started the game can see the chip. All other players will see absolutely nothing. Now that you have the chip, take the telepipe up to Pioneer 2. Do NOT give the microchip to that girl you talked to earlier, or she will give you a measly Digrinder, and Dr. Montague will NOT help you. Grab your monster part, and with the Microchip, talk to Dr. Montague. He will then convert your part into a weapon. Voila. End of mission. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Extra Notes ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I have had both a Sinow Red's Arm, as well as a Sinow Beat's Arm converted in this quest so far. The Sinow Red's Arm became a S-Red's Blade with 45% A. Beast and 10% hit. The Sinow Beat's Arm became a S-Beat's Blade with 35% A. Beast and 10% hit. Both parts were converted in Very Hard difficulty, it is currently unknown to me, whether difficulty level determines what %s you get. I will research this soon. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Credits ----------------------------------------------------------------------- - John "JWL" Lewindowski, Mike Ripplinger, and Tony "Ark/Dios GX" Salbato for helping me convert the Sinow Red's Arm in Very Hard mode. Much appreciated. - Philip "HighRes" Hudman, Jeremy "Baker" Moore, and Tony "Ark/Dios GX" Salbato again for helping me convert the Sinow Beat's Arm and testing my belief that you DON'T NEED TO DO ALL THE OFFLINE QUESTS. Ha! - Mamak International, since it is their translated mini-guide that pretty much told me that this mission is the one used to make monster part weapons. Kudos to them.
