While some of the facial expression in the Phantasy Star generation 1 character portraits are hard to classify without dialogue to give them context, this is not one of those. Myau is clearly quite pleased here. Although closed eyes, as used in this picture, are a common way of showing happiness in anime based character designs, this technique is most fitting when used on a cat. Anyone who has lived with a cat for an extended period has seen this very look in real life, I'm sure.
