The expression of sadness on the face of Lutz is difficult to read. I'm not sure if you can tell from his mouth, but he is pouting a little compared to his other portraits. Most of Lutz's expression comes from his eyes - notice how his brow is flat, almost sympathetic? Not a lot of sympathy, mind you, but it is there if you look closely. He is a far cry from Kyra's exuberance in Phantasy Star IV.
