Let us begin our daily image rotation of 2011 by returning to the beginning of the Phantasy Star saga. This is one of the earliest cutscenes of the series, featuring the legendary and groundbreaking heroine, Alis. During conversations between our heroine and other party members - most notably Odin and Noah - this scene is shown to represent Alis' side of the discussion. Seeing the heroes talking together in this manner was a rare and unusual occurrence in 8 bit games. Phantasy Star broke from the silent, faceless protagonist conventions used by peer games like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest.
