When plotting the cutscenes of Phantasy Star IV, the staff at Sega drew references by hand before creating them as 16-bit, sprite based gaming graphics on a computer. In this example, we can see Chaz and Rika with astonished expressions. They are looking at Rune Walsh, who has just told them he plans to leave and continue his training for the role of Lutz. The translation of this scene to game graphics loses a lot of detail.
