Meet the werebat, a vampire like creature that roamed the planets of Algo in the days of King Lassic. Although not particularly strong at first, these creatures knew the Help spell, allowing them to boost their strength high enough to endanger many travellers. In packs, they can be quite deadly to the unprepared!

In the olden days of gaming, Sega borrowed many concepts from other sources when creating Phantasy Star. The original name of the werebat an example of that. They were really named "Batman." For legal reasons, Sega had to drop that name when localizing the game for English release. Even Phantasy Star: Deluxe Edition uses the Batman name internally, however.
