Back in the early days of console roleplaying games, priests and churches served a vital role. Many of them were the only method of saving the game or restoring characters that had fallen victim to curses or other ailments. Most more recent games have implemented these functions in other ways. Even Phantasy Star generation:1 decided to drop them in favor of more religious neutral hospitals. Phantasy Star: Deluxe Edition, however, harkens back to the early days when many games had a church, priest, and Christian style cross in every town.
