Board Games

Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Mon Apr 2, '07, 9:46 pm

Remember before there were any such things as video games or online games, etc., that much time and amusement was spent playing regular board games?

Board games had their own achievements, difficulties, and triumphs, so to speak. Lots of board games are still enjoyed by many people today and probably will be for years to come. Many of them are classics that will live forever in one form or another.

And, many board type games have been incorporated into a similar type video game or online version also, thereby creating new ways to experience and enjoy them.

Do you still enjoy playing board games these days, or are you "bored" by them, preferring the appeal of other video or online type games, etc., instead?

I play Checkers every now and then, but not that often. It's something fun to do in stormy weather when the electricity is off. I haven't found a video game version of it that I really like yet.

I always enjoy a good game of Monopoly - but I rarely play it because it takes a long time. I used to play lots of other board games when I was younger, but I haven't played them often in a long time.

For me, it's Arkham Horror.

Basically, Arkham Horror is a board game inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's works on Cthulu and the Cthulu mythos. The players each have to investigate odd happenings and seal gates to the worlds of the Ancient Ones (evil beings of immense power) before they awaken. You can arm yourself with magic, weapons and allies, and you must take care of both your health and your sanity, as contact with magic and evil happenings dwindle your sanity away.

Anyway, the game is very fun, but it's hard to find.

Zafneir, that sounds like an interesting game. I've never heard of it. Is it new or has it been around for awhile. Is it hard to play? You say it's hard to find. Can you find it in a toy store like Walmart or ToysRus, or Kaybee, or is it found in some other speciality type store or do you have to special order it? Just wondering.
