Nintendo games with collectible figures

Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Sun May 18, '14, 12:35 am

Found this story about Nintendo possibly adding collectible figures with some of their video games:

Do you think adding collectible figures will help video games to sell better, or not?

Maybe, but call me skeptical. I feel like this is trying to ride on the coattails of the Skylanders franchise. The figures are gimmicky, sure, but they do fit within the lore/logic of the universe.

Sorry, Nintendo. You need good games. Figurines do not make a good game in themselves.
Next Pokemon game(s): Pearl

Other games: Skyrim Special Edition (Switch), Spyro Reignited Trilogy (Switch & PS4), Okami (Switch & PS4)
Other gaming goals: completing a Living Pokedex (minus some event Pokes) and going through at least 1 game per generation

I'm highly skeptical too here ! As I'm not a big figurine fan, I only need GOOD games ! At last..for the WII U ! ;)

Not interested. It sounds like a dumb idea to me. They simply need to focus on games, like the previous posters said.

I'm not personally crazy about the figures, but I don't have an issue with the quality of Nintendo's games. They have a dearth of games for Wii U by sheer volume, but the quality of the games is quite high. I saw a chart recently indicating that, judging solely by console exclusives, Nintendo is tearing it up this gen with both number and quality of games. Kind of puts it into perspective, I mean, the Wii U is hurting for games, but the other systems aren't exactly drowning in exciting games and exclusives, either.

More info on the collectible figures, etc. It looks like they may cost around $13.00 each:

They actually look cool, pretty high quality, and based on the actual models from the games, but I would personally prefer just action figures without the electronic component.

Still not particularly interested. Still feels gimmicky and rather pointless to me, and still riding on the coattails of Skylanders, which at least has an in-universe explanation for the figures.

Bragatyr, I do agree that this gen so far, there's a lack of good, exciting exclusives. It kind of says something when one of the best exclusives currently available is a remastered version of a PS3 game (and of course, I'm talking about The Last of Us Remastered). Still haven't adopted any new systems, but I have access as my boyfriend and his brother have. I think my PS3/Vita backlog will keep me busy for quite some time (and I'm not helped by the monthly PS Plus freebies!)
