Word of the year

The dictionary giants, Merriam-Webster, have chosen their choice for "word of the year" and the word is: pragmatic .

So, what does everyone think of this word as "word of the year"?

Do you know what "pragmatic" means without looking it up in the dictionary or other help source??

That choice strikes me as a bit ironic. Given the meaning of the word, it is not one I would expect to be selected for something like a "word of the year" program.
