Phantasy Star: Fringes of Algo

While theyre all equally bad, PSII, has the worst English market box art to me.
An older, gray haired man as the supposed hero? Enough said.

North American PSII box art, no contest, but only because it looks nothing like anything going on in the actual game. Although, the front of the Japanese version of PSIII's box art is pretty horrendous, too. It was said best here: http://lparchive.org/Phantasy-Star-3/

You know, if Rolf and Nei really did look like the box art, it would have been cool and very in keeping with many of the middle-aged sci-fantasy heroes of the 1980s, but we all know that in no point in the history of gaming has any JRPG ever had heroes older than 20 (Amy is 23 and Rudo is 35, but they fit other common companion tropes). Ah well. Would have made for a really cool grizzled war veteran story, but alas, 'twas not meant to be.

PS3 japanese box art. I don't know what they were thinking with that one.

I checked the PS3 link Tanith provided. Wow. It's crazy, the hate some people need to feel for PS3. It's just a game. It's not as if it went back in time to beat you with a stick when you were still in your cradle.

US PS2 art, though PS3's US box art is pretty bad too.

See, I kind of like the US box art for that game. It's like flying into a Roger Dean album cover! It's fairly true to the game, too. You have the hero in third-person perspective to intentionally obscure his identity, fighting an incredibly bad-to-the-bone Rulakir on the long flight of stairs, with one of the moons and a worldship (so maybe it's Sean fighting Rulakir?) in the background. I love the purple color sceme, too.

In fact, I'm going to declare it my favorite box art from the series alongside Phantasy Star Gaiden's box art.

The LP of PSIII isn't really that brutal, Aero. It's pretty funny and you can tell the author's tone is light and humorous. Now, the forum comments? I don't know. My policy is to never read forum comments except for when I'm participating in the same forums.

PS3'S US box art is absolutely awesome. That is all.

Yes I find USA PS3's boxart as the least offensive, tied with PS1. At least PS3's art got the allusion to the final long, staircase with what I assume is a strange appearing Rulakir at the top, and behind him, the world-ship's shape. As if the artist actually paid attention.

At least they never put Fabio on the box art of any games.
