Actually... no it's not! It actually is you as your cell are used and therefore it is you (in the PS2 world same dna same structure, same appearance and same "soul" or is there some parts missing of you that defines you? )

Wich makes it even more interesting why Nei can't be cloned (that cloning lady must have an hidden agenda)

Nei CAN be cloned, but not after Climatrol. Nei has Neifirst's DNA and cells inside her, and those died when Neifirst was killed. That explains why she dies even if you manage to beat Neifirst solo with Nei.

That does make sense maybe in the PS2 world but not in the real one (as DNA can be collected from dead tissue).
I guess Nei's "soul" died because it was part of Neifirst's "soul" and with the death of Neifirst she just simple died as well (wich would make some sort of sense as Neifirst can exist without Nei)

Hmm... never considered the "soul" aspect of the memory banks and cloning idea. Maybe the designers introduced them to show that people were living in a world without religion. In the original PS, and PSIII which was developed somewhat in parallel, they have churches and resurrections but in PSII it's been replaced with technology.

What happenend to religion in PS2? Was it not allowed or was there no need for religion anymore(i guess not allowed by the MB as there are no churches on Mota).

The old religion was probably phased out by the Mother Brain government. As people became more reliant on Mother Brain to provide everything, some began to view Mother Brain as a goddess. Essentially the old religion is replaced with one that worships Mother Brain.

The old religion probably still exists in some form, but only practiced by a few people or in secret.
