Yeah, you don't hear people going around saying "May George Washington protect you" so they were apparently perceived as being god-like in some capacity.

Maybe they're just symbols that survived without any meaning. Although the old religion carried into the new one makes a lot of sense too. Kinda like how we ended up with the Easter bunny.

Well they did go by more of a monarchy rather than our democracy or whatever we call it today. In most monarchs the king and royal family were considered pretty much godly. So yeah, that would explain that. Easter bunny?
Everything has a pattern. Something set. Even random things. They aren't random at all, its complex mathematics. The trick is to find the pattern. Then you can exploit it.

People think things have a certain end. Taxes. Work. Due dates don't really exist. Trust me. When you put a band of world scholars in the same room, and set them on talking about anything, the most interesting topics come up. The existence of negative time. The probability of "random occurrence". The government's involvement in the media. And falsified due dates. They aren't real, trust me....

Yeah, the Easter bunny was pagan symbol that was absorbed into Christianity. It's a pretty common pattern throughout history that when a new religion comes along they assimilate pieces of the previous one. I was just relating it to religious symbols from PSI being present in future games even if the actual religion was replaced.

Christianity absorbed lots of symbols like that. I guess all religions change over time as stories are told and retold. With a period of 2000 years to grow, like we see between Phantasy Star and Phantasy Star III, the old religion would probably not even be recognizable to people from Palma.

Hm, yeah. Given the destruction of the old civilizations and the regression to a feudal system, the old religion could be completely replaced in Landen and Cille.

What about in the other areas, where technology and memories of the old world are preserved better, like Aerone, Techna, and New Mota? Would those places have an Orakio and Laya religion as well?

i don't think mother brain was a religious figure, more of just a thing the people let watch over them in a similar fashion of a religious figure. mother brain made the world better and many were oblivious to her but alot of them also believed that she was a devil so to say.

Some time ago i read somewhere an article explaining that the intention of the game team with Mother Brain was make a parallel with the socialism system where the power is very centralized, and in a subjective way talk about the danger in centralizing so many power and decisions. If it is true, it is natural that motavia has no religion, since in theory socialism rejects any religion.

When i saw the topic name i just remembered about the article, I'm looking for it now, if someone has the link to the article please post it.

Now that you mention it, I think I remember reading that, too. I seem to remember it being a fan theory or essay. Maybe it was on Camineet.net?
