Virtual Reality headsets

Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Tue Aug 7, '12, 12:11 pm

Although their popularity may have faded awhile back, now it appears that some are trying this once again.

Check out this Oculus Rift headset:

What do you think of this new gaming gear??

It looks like the most promising adaption of the VR concept to date. One of the problems I have with first person games is that they lack true immersion because the field of vision is limited to the box shape of the screen. There's no peripheral vision. This headset described in the article seems to address that. Being able to shift my eyes to the right and see "okay, this guy is over here" is a neat thing that gaming with a TV or computer monitor lacks. If they can really make it affordable to the average consumer, this VR set could finally make a reality from the huge impact on gaming that proponents of the concept have always imagined.

The MacGyver quality of the prototype also appeals to me.

We first heard about Virtual Reality many years ago and...nthing has never came ! Maybe one day but I really doubt it as it'll not be very interesting at all...IMHO !

Again ? Strange maneuver as I doubt that this technology is going to be very popular but why not try to test it ? But if it's only on PSIV, I doubt I'll test it one day ! ^^

I'll pass. I feel foolish enough wearing headphones when I game, I don't need a TV/monitor strapped to my face.

I wouldn't mind seeing how the Morpheus pans out. It will probably end up being more popular than the Oculus Rift since people have started to boycott the OR because of Facebook.

I do have a feeling that Sony will change the name of Project Morpheus just like they did with the Playstation Move (I personally would have preferred one of the unofficial names, those being the Arc or Sphere).

Chuck E. Cheese restaurants are joining up with Oculus Rift to have some of the virtual reality headsets in their restaurants in various locations:

What does everyone think of this?

Personally, when I go to a restaurant I want to eat....not play video games, but kids are kids and gaming is the #1 hobby these days for kids and adults alike, I think.

I saw that too. Kind of strange if you ask me. Imagine all of the greasy pizza stained hands that will touch their precious Oculus Rifts.
