Rhino killed

Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Thu Mar 9, '17, 1:19 am

Really upset today when I heard on the news about a Rhino that had been killed for it's horn (which is very valuable in some places), but the most horrific fact is that the Rhino was killed in a zoo of all places. One would think they would be safe at a place like that.

Horrible news! no place is sacred anymore.
All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.

Of course, I've heard about it ! :( As it has happened in a french Zoo, in Thoiry...what a shame it is ! No there are no sacred places anymore and I hop they're going to find the culprits...

Well, they're running out of rhinos in the wild to kill, so poaches are going to start pulling stunts like this.

Also, just for note, rhino horn is composed of keratin, which is the same protein that makes up human fingernails. Not very valuable at all, but there are sadly pseudoscientific beliefs of its (nonexistent) medicinal value that drives the poaching.

Alas, yes, some people believes that this Kreatin (or maybe other "things" inside) have very strong powers... :( So sad.

I was shocked that the poachers would be able to do something like this and get away with doing it in a zoo of all places. It would seem there would be better safety precautions for the animals in such a place. Security cameras, zoo employees, caretakers, somebody around watching and keeping an eye on things.

Not surprised that someone would try it, though, as some people will do anything these days for a dollar. Just surprised that they were able to do it and get away without being caught.

You know, nowadays, poachers and many other bad people are really eager to try ALL to have money, and that is such a shame ! Maybe "Zoo keepers" wasn't prepared for that specificaly ? Honestly, you can't really think that they were going to try it...but they did ! Alas...:(

Yes I am sure the zoo keepers and others there did not expect something like this to happen, but I'll bet they will be keeping a closer eye out after this.

From now, all the zoos all over the world are gonna keep an eye (and maybe both of them) on the animals in danger (such as elephants) and try to think over better protection. Hope it's not gona happen again...
