Marathon Gamer dies

Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Fri Feb 24, '17, 12:42 am

A man playing in video game marathons has died. He was only 35 years old.

Condolences to his family.

Has anyone here ever played in a Marathon game(s)? It must be stressful, to say the least, and probably unhealthy if the right precautions are not taken while and during play time.

This is sad and tragic. It's also sparked a debate within the streaming community about safe practices while streaming and even doing 24 hours streams. Hopefully this will not happen in the future and people take better precautions when streaming for long periods of time.

For those wondering, there is a go fund me page where money is being raised for his three children and family whom he left behind. As of this writing there is over 150 donations totaling just over $17K. While it can never replace the man himself, it is nice to see people helping contribute to help his family out in his time of need.

The donation page can be found here at: https://www.gofundme.com/poshybrid

Very sad indeed :( I'm not a great fan (not at all) of those marathon games as it's highly unhealthy, I suppose...
Condolences to his family..:tombstone:

It's very sad to hear that this fellow died as a result of his gaming session. At least it will hopefully get people to take better care of themselves when playing. Breaks are important!

I have to confess that I pulled a few marathon sessions when I was a teenager. I doubt I went for 20+ hours more than once or twice and that was probably during a holiday break from school. It's not something I could do or would even try now.

Unfortunately this is the kind of thing that fuels that popular misconceptions about gaming being unhealthy, addictive, etc. Which it CAN BE when not done responsibly, and most people are responsible about it. But one mistake all it can take, sadly.
Next Pokemon game(s): Pearl
Last finished Pokémon game: Shield
Other games: Skyrim Special Edition (Switch), Spyro Reignited Trilogy (Switch & PS4), Okami (Switch & PS4)
Other gaming goals: completing a Living Pokedex (minus some event Pokes) and going through at least 1 game per generation

I've done some long sessions. More so when I get into a good game. I know what it is like though. You get into that zone and forget to eat and drink. I've done that more than a few times working on the project.
