So I am writing a new blog

Postby Rylen » Wed Oct 19, '16, 7:18 pm

https://prayingbricks.blogspot.com/

Decided to start collecting some of my writings that I post on FB and put them up in a blog. Called "Praying at the Bricks: The Lego Church Project blog". It is a religious blog so probably not everyone's cup of tea. But if your a fan of my lego art work. I do have some posts already going into some of my thought process behind my reasons for the project itself.

Just happened to come across this post and went to read some of the newest blogs. Very interesting. Glad to see it still going.

Just wondering, but saw the spot where it mentions being helpful if people had any legos to donate. Do you get many of these lego type donations? We used to have a bunch of these things. I think they are in storage somewhere now.

These Lego's can be very expensive at the store. Was browsing around the store and shocked to find what the price of some of these Lego sets today cost.

I started asking for money donations because it's been a few years since I got any real donation of actual bricks. For a long time that was the main way I built up my collection. Even using bricklink.com (an online market place for LEGO builders) stuff can range in price. If I'm buying a part at 0.47 cents. At some point your talking price ranges of 35$ for 75 of them. (this happened today in fact). For me though it is hard to me to even ask for help of any kind. Just part of my nature.

The really good sets cost more than 100$. Depending on how many parts are in it. What kinds of parts along with mini figures. It is not always that good a deal. For the specialty parts. Better to let a bricklink vendor part it out. Though some will put a high retail mark up on it.

The blog allows me to do stuff the FB page can't. Like having an expanded FAQ and other related posts. I still have a few post (non Lego Church Project) in the idea phase. But I like ideas to simmer and develop for a bit. Makes for a much better entry.

A few tips on Bricklink: 1) prices per part can very. Shop around. You may have to pay a little bit more if that store has the amounts you want. 2)Pay attention to the feedback. Even if a shop has 98% positive rating. Read the neutral and negative to see what kind of issues you *might* have. 3) Focus on the shops in your own country first. Some out of country vendors can *really* hose you on the shipping costs. Say you live in Country A and order from Country B. 10$ for the order. But Country B decides to charge you an extra 20$ to ship it to you. 4) Pay attention to each vendor's "terms" they spell out shipping, money, and other related stuff. 4B) Some (not all) vendors have a "min buy" amount. Meaning that unless you spend X amount they won't even consider your order. Some are decent like 3$ or so. Others might be a lot higher. I've seen min buy's as high as 15$.

I need to turn this into a blog post.
