I just saw the posters and the trailer when I watched Ant-Man. I did not know of this movie before then.
The posters were intriguing, since I did play those games as a kid.
The trailer starts with Sandler before it makes it obvious it is about Pixels. I am no different from you when it comes to disliking his appearances in films, so that was not a good start. The trailer then got better with Peter Dinklage, whom I have liked since Treshold (I wish they had not cancelled that series).
Then the training part was interesting. I thought the Donkey Kong screen looked good and could be funny.

Professor Iwatani: (touches Pac-Man) Pac-Man is not evil.
Pac-Man: (munches Iwatani's arm)
Iwatani: SOMEONE KILL THIS STUPID THING! ;_;
Then came this... Having the creator of Pac-Man in the movie would be a very strong point and may have made people go see it... If they did not spoil all of his participation in the trailer... I think it was such a stupid move. Why should I watch the movie now, when they already used this? Also, that joke is not the type of humor I find funny, but I accept it is the type of humor the movie goes for (and that would be the moment I realize that no, this movie would not amuse me).
Also, I do not remember the videogame that had such detailed Smurfs. Was that from a BD sent along with the games?
