Your Last Retro Game

Remembering the games of yesteryear.

That's great to know. Those are really good games and their menu-based interface is good for touch controls. And the series needs all the support it can get so the publisher finally realizes there is demand for it.

For me, I put Phantasy Star Portable 2 on hold and went back to Phantasy Star III. I am loving the character sprites more and more. It is amazing how their height is evident even from the small sprites. And they look very detailed. I may not like the monster animations in this one (while I love PS II's), but the characters' graphics are superb.

I really liked the character sprites in PS III, too. Very neat, I love the capes, gives the game a much more medieval feel.

Still playing PS III. Just started generation 3 (with Sean).

But I am sad because Sari's sprite is the same height as Thea's, when it should be as tall as Ayn's...

Bram Stoker's Dracula on Genesis. The game isn't that bad, but it's still kinda lousy. It's kind of like a poor man's Strider, but it's a HELL of a lot better than that god awful Journey from Darkness:Strider Returns game that Tiertex made.

I remember this game from my childhood.

Unfortunately, not even nostalgia can save that game.

I'm playing Below the Root right now. I'd wager I'm about 1/3 of my way into it. Anyone else remember this game? I played it on the C64 in ye olde days, but it was available for DOS and Apple II as well.

The game was huge (data, not popularity) for its time! Two disks! Whoa!

The gameplay is still really fun and non-linear (very sandbox-y for 1984), but oh my, are the controls not responsive at all. There are a lot of unique game elements, things you'd likely see in current-day indie games, such as environmentalism and veganism (of all things to be touched upon in a video game!). Spoilers ahead: Once you're able to read the minds of animals, you realize why some characters find eating meat highly disturbing.

"Below the Root" has been a neat trip down memory lane. And while I'm here, did you all know the creators of Maniac Mansion are creating a new adventure game? It's called Thimbleweed Park.

Been playing some Arcana, a fun little dungeoncrawler RPG by HAL before all they made was Kirby and Smash Bros. And speaking of Kirby...

Nethack. The last two games were my first two ascensions. First as a valkyrie, then a samurai.

Just bought Metroid Prime Trilogy for my WiiU. I love this game to death.
