Phantasy Star: Fringes of Algo

Now along with my Macbook, I have a PC running Windows 8. It is primarily for gaming and Steam, but who knows...I may use it for more someday.

Yes. I love my Macbook Pro more than my Windows PC, and more than my Hackintosh
PC. i dont run into the problems I would run into on those.

I only use laptops/notebooks now, with a preference for slim ones, and ideally a 13" inch screen. Not too big, nor too small. 13" is Goldilocks soup.
Anyone else on preference for laptop/notebooks VS desktops, or preference on size of your laptops?

Well, right now, I have a late 2008 model Macbook. So it's a bit thicker and heavier than modern MacBooks, but the 13 inch screen is quite good, IMO. It's still running decently well, and I just upgraded to Yosemite last night and ran a backup, but without question, the machine is showing its age. I sincerely doubt it will be able to run the next OS X, so getting a new Macbook sometime in the nearish future is on my radar. But the size is pretty ideal for me, and once I do get that new Macbook, I look forward to it being a bit slimmer and lighter.

I prefer laptops for most things. I've had just a laptop basically since I started college until just recently, when I got the gaming PC (desktop) for Christmas. I like the portability of laptops as I do need it for work sometimes, I can bring it to class, it can do what I want it do.

that answers my f/u q: if your super ultra gaming pc was desk- or lap- book.

which is what confused my a quile back when we last spoke of it: couldnt alll those super-duper-mega-ultra specs of a gaming desktop, fit into a laptop. (using eir eqivilient of course. no 4 or 5 inchdrives slammed into laptops wont work, with great results, usually.

Oh, sorry if I haven't been clear! Yeah, I have two computers. The Windows 8 desktop for gaming with the high specs, and my (probably needing replaced relatively soon) 2008 Macbook. Former for gaming, latter for basically everything else - some work-related activities, school work, internet, music, etc. So it has the standard productively software, as well as R Studio for statistics and my life cycle assessment software on it. I feel both desk- and laptops have their place, depending on what one wants. But between the two, for most things except PC gaming, I prefer OS X over Windows, and laptop over desktop.

I see so your super gaming computer is a desktop.
I was thinking that your super supercomputer was a gaming laptop such as an Alienware laptop. I find those to be too expensive for me.

I decided that I would never own a desktop again in 2006. since I do not game, I just stopped seeing the use for it, plus I traveled a lot and I wanted to be mobile.

2013 MacBook Pro w 2.9 GHz, assumingly dual core, i7 2.9 GHz 512 GB SSD, 16 MB of RAM. I have no idea what the graphics card or sound card is. too lazy to check. and I have zero idea how it would stand up to actually gaining, since I never played an actual computer game besides emulation of console games,

then comes a 2013 Sony VAIO Windows 8 computer 16 years RAM, I5 core processor 2.6 GHz. that is enough for what I need it to do.

and then I have a Lenovo u310 which I used to mess about when I am Hackintoshing. which is very difficult get precisely and I have never had in the hundred percent on that computer nor any other prior ones which I also played mad scientist with. like I tried to put both iOS and Windows on it as a dual-boot. some people also put linux but I do not see a reason. at least for now.

I am not rich, to afford these things, I just snipe things on eBay. for any one of those things listed, I have not paid any more than $700 each. the Sony I actually bought from Sony, but on student discount, due to a technicality, so it was just about the same as the Lenovo<500 usd. plus I have spent the last year selling my games, books, music CDs etc. on eBay. so yes I have spent too much I suppose, unless you count the RAM and SSD I added into them. but with the eBay earnings I consider the money spent and the money earned as status quo without having to touch my own personal income.

the Windows is the core of my network so I call It Mother Brain. The Apples powerful, so its, Mother Trinity. the Lenovo is Gaira, since with all the tinkering, it often crashes. in my network setup is Algol.
my external hard drives, are named after the planets.


this is not a measuring contest. or bragging. I am generally interested in tech. my knowledge and software and coding pales in comparison to my knowledge of hardware. so I like to imagine and find interests in what everyone else uses.

its is fun to be a geek .

postscript: RE: Aero, you mentioned you have not (re?)formatted 2008-- does this mean you use the same computer, or just the same hard drive? and that you have just been upgrading along the way..? I wish I had the knowledge you did.

I have now lost one Windows machine. Today my office computer was replaced with a late 2013 iMac, 8 GB RAM, running Yosemite. Which makes me pretty happy. I knew this was happening so I did back up all my key documents and data on my own, but when I came in IT was already doing the swap and installing key bits of software. A little of my own work later and it's configured as I want with all the software I want.
