Been listening to this one a lot lately, as I mentioned in the Getting to Know You thread. This group is awesome, and I just love the beautiful lyrics and melody on this one.

I'd bet my life the show tomorrow will open with this song.

And I'd be fine with that.

I'd use the official video as I love it (and I'm not a music video person) but it features brief nudity.

Meant to comment on this the other day and somehow never got around to it until now. I really like this music. Never heard of these folks before but really enjoy these sounds. Thanks for posting it. Do you know if they have anything else out??

Thank you for checking that one out, Silver Surfer, I thought it was too good not to share. They have a lot of material, actually, largely old American traditional music like hymns and folk songs, and also some obscurer European stuff. A lot of their songs are on their Youtube page, The Rose Ensemble. They have some amazing singers and their arrangements are beautiful, and I love discovering new (or old, in this case, ha ha) songs from older times.

I finally wandered by this thread and checked out the video you posted, Bragatyr, and I'm in agreement with SS1 - awesome find and I'm glad I gave it a listen! I'll be sure to poke around their Youtube page.

If you like arrangements of traditional songs/hymns and you haven't already, you absolutely need to listen to some Aaron Copland. Definitely look into his suite of Old American Songs. (Preferably with William Warfield singing. Also preferably the full orchestra arrangement and not just piano, because the orchestration is brilliant.)

I found two of the the Warfield/full orchestra songs on Youtube. They're both great (the whole set is), but the second, Long Time Ago, is my favorite. It's just gorgeous.

Glad to hear you liked it! I remember reading about Copland in college, I kind of associated him with Gershwin for melding a popular form of music with classical forms. That reminds me that I saw a classically trained vocalist in college doing American slave songs in a kind of ornamented style, really beautiful and definitely haunting stuff. I love the sense of structure and direction a classical work brings, but to me the most powerful music tends to be derived from ordinary people.

"Axel F" by Harold Faltermeyer

Don't feel like looking for a YouTube link to hotlink at the moment. I apologize.

'Death in the Eyes of Dawn' from Enslaved's album RIITIIR. Parts of it just take me to a whole different world.

One of the best songs from the album that got me into metal waaaaaaaay back when I was in late middle school. I decided to put it on today and even now, almost 15 years on, it still holds up as one of the best power-progressive metal albums I've listened to.
