It might be worth noting that nowadays both Ys: Oath in Felghana and Ys Origin are available on Steam.

Being the indie wonk that I am on some days, there are more than a few things that I'd like to speak up on. the first being the output of one Daniel Remar, most notably Iji and Hero Core.

Iji itself is something of a side-scrolling action game, with a fairly in-depth character customization system for a game of it's type, as well as a graphical style that's rather reminiscent of games like Flashback and Out of This World. however, perhaps the most unique aspect of the game is that pacifist is as equally rewarding and interesting a mode of play as full-on murdermode, in that the content of the story, dialogue, and even the heroine's own pool of voice quotes change depending on which road you decide take your gaming style. The final boss battle is so amazing, that Dan had to write an entirely new rendering program just to handle it.

The second is Hero Core, which is quite a fun little action-exploring game, which also has its own little quirks, such as the fact that you have access to the final boss fairly early on, and he is quite beatable if you're good enough at the game- there are just a number of hoops you have to jump through for the best ending.

Beyond that, however, there are some others. While La-Mulana is a bit better known on the internet, it's still a bit of an obscure game- which is a shame, as while rather hard, the recent remake of the game is probably one of the best metroidvania-style games ever made, built on the sheer awesome of its soundtrack and atmosphere.

Oh yeah, if all of you are still looking to scratch an old PC gaming itch, there's always gog.com.

Might be current-gen, but I don't care, especially as it's current-gen with a powerful retro element. It seems few know about this game, and it's pretty awesome. It's 3D Dot Game Heroes for the PS3. Zelda meets Minecraft, definitely a homage to old games and Zelda in particular, with an incredibly similar plot line. So retro yet modern at the same time - the graphics are entirely blocks. When you kill/break something, it explodes into a bunch of blocks. It's also got a fantastic element of self-parody, which is readily apparent in dialogue with villagers around the world. Lastly, a character creator. Start from scratch or use an existing template. Strongly recommend this one if you have a PS3.

My turn ! One of the greatest games I've ever played is on the Sega Master System ! Like Phnatasy Star : what a great machine !
This game, it's LORD OF THE SWORD ! What a game...
Even if now the reviews are very "hard" for this game (but I can understand about the lack of save features ! :( ) : at the time, that was a true desesperation and with my two brothers, we never finished this game.. but great souvenirs !
Try it if you can but with the emulators and save features, no proble about it anymore !

Did someone have already tried this game before ?

It's widely known as one of the best games on the drive, hence pretty much everyone who likes the drive has played it.

I had a real blast from the past just a few minutes ago. Way back in the first post of this topic - over seven years ago, I recommended Septerra Core. I just found out that it's on Steam and on sale for $0.99 this week. If I can't find my old CD key to activate it, I might have to buy it again.

I might as well add Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Really, this is a great FUN WRPG. It's a shame it bombed at retail and the developer is now gone. Even sadder that no one bought up the rights for the game.

Yeah, it's a recent game, but it is pretty much forgotten in the world of Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age, and The Witcher taking precedence; with Dragon's Dogma, Shadow of Mordor, and others taking up room as well.

Really, what made this game fun was the somewhat less than serious tone (it was serious, but it wasn't Dragon Age serious), the colorful style, and the gameplay. Everything just felt so dynamic and...well, fun! Granted the story was forgettable, but I can forgive that in this case.

But yeah, Amalur.

Last night, I picked up a half-finished log of Crusader of Centy I started back in April. Really did forget just how fun this game is and how well it holds up even today in basically all areas. Does occasionally suffer from slowdown when there's a lot going on, but it's not game breaking by any stretch of the imagination. Definitely recommend trying it, though I wouldn't seek out an actual cartridge unless you have at least $200 lying around, so emulation is the way to go as ROMs for it are easy to find. As of this posting it ranges anywhere from $170 to $400 on eBay. Seeing as I still have the original box and manual...
