Comedian and Actor Robin Williams has died. He was 63.

http://movies.msn.com/movies/article.aspx?news=881799

He was perhaps most famous for playing the role of alien "Mork" on the hit TV sitcom years ago called "Mork & Mindy", which originated after he appeared playing the same character in an episode of the TV show "Happy Days". He later starred in many movies including "Jumanji", "Patch Adams", "Night At The Museum" and related sequels, "RV", "Good Morning Vietnam", "Mrs. Doubtfire", and many, many more movies. He was one of the funniest comedians I ever remember seeing.

This is really shocking to hear of his death. He will be very much missed. Condolences to his family. :tombstone: :rose:

I was completely shocked by this. Really depressing news, the man was a legend, so incredibly talented and in so many diverse ways, and apparently a really nice guy. They were just about to start doing a sequel to Ms. Doubtfire, too, which is a real shame. Along with Aladdin and Fisher King and Dead Poets' Society and other classic roles that's probably what I most remember him for. As a kid going through a difficult divorce at the time that movie was really meaningful to me.

The only movie I ever saw with Robin Williams was Good Will Hunting, and he was a supporting character in that movie. I'm not a big movie guy though.

More on Robin Williams today in honor and celebration of his life. :rose:

Reading of his death yesterday was totally shocking and I felt like I was almost in shock or stunned disbelieve all evening yesterday after hearing the news of his death. Today, I can't stop the tears from falling and wishing that he could have gotten some real help somehow before taking such a drastic step. I only hope he knew how much he meant to everyone all over the world. Many are heartbroken today and hoping that this man who made us all laugh is finally finding peace and rest.

Found a video of Conan O'Brien telling his audience the news of Robin William's passing. You can clearly tell that Conan is shocked by the news also:

On a lighter note, I was reminded today that Robin Williams loved to play video games and in fact he even named one of his daughters, Zelda, after one of his favorite games, The Legend Of Zelda. That's awesome!!

And, I found a few more links that I think help to honor Robin's work and his passing:

I remember thinking it was so cool that he named his daughter Zelda. She seems awesome, as well. That commercial he did a few years back for Ocarina of Time 3D was simultaneously so poignant and so funny, like so much of what he did. He really was one of a kind.

An article about Robin Williams and his love for video games:

Pretty cool read. I've never seen any of the commercials since I never watch TV.

This was perhaps the most shocking thing to come home to from camping. Robin Williams was one of my favourite comedians and actors growing up. I always loved the energy he brought to the stage and how alive he always seemed to be. It's tragic to know that he's gone. I just hope nothing like this happens again any time soon.

RIP Robin Williams

Not going to claim I'm a big fan or anything. I've seen a few movies he's in and he's a good actor. But comedy is very hit or miss for me, and he fell on the 'miss' side for me. I still acknowledge his cultural impact and his talent for sure, though. He'll definitely be missed.

Unfortunately, this has also brought out the darker side of the internet. His daughter has quit social media because people used it to harass her for…well, no real reason, in this time of grief.

Sad that his daughter felt she had to leave but I can certainly understand her taking a break at a time like this. People can be cruel and sometimes for no reason. It's hard to understand why. What's wrong in their world that they feel the need to try and make others feel bad also? Notice I said "try" because they won't always succeed in doing so, and thank goodness for that. Any way, enough on that from me because hard as we may try we will never figure out the cruelty of others, imho.

Just yesterday I read some interesting articles where Robin's wife/widow says that he was in the early stages of Parkinson's Disease and that he was not ready to share that info with the world yet. If that is true, then I can imagine how upset he may have been knowing all that also. How inspiring to others he might have been though if only he had shared that news and somehow helped others who may have been facing this battle. I have read that he was very supportive of many charities and foundations, etc. Sometimes all one can do at the moment is try and help themselves though their own battles though.

One of the reasons I stay away from social networking sites. I want nothing to do with them.
