So today was interesting.

My writing alter ego got a message on facebook from a guy who just happens to have the same exact name as the main character of Disintegration. Whoops! When I name characters, I usually run the name through google and some other databases to make sure it's not the name of someone well-known, or to see if there are enough non-famous people out there that it's not an issue. Guess the internet failed me this time and led me to believe I'm more creative than I actually am!

Anyway, he seemed cool about it (and capped off the message with a smiley face), so I answered his questions about how I decided on the name and apologized for any confusion this may cause should my book hit the best-sellers list. I was tempted to include "Sorry for torturing your character and making so many bad things happen to him" as well, but I didn't want to give away any spoilers!

That's pretty awesome. I actually have a fear of doing that when coming up with character names. But I try not to worry about it too much, because it's all fiction anyway (hopefully!) so people just have to deal with having alternate reality namesakes!

I would imagine that it would be very hard to come up with a name that someone did not have somewhere in the world. That doesn't mean it is impossible, just probably kinda hard to do. I have also done google searches at various times for different members of my family (past and present) to see what I would come up with and was astounded at the numbers of other people in other parts of the US and the world that have the same exact names. It was an interesting and learning experience to say the least.

Glad to hear the guy was cool about the whole thing. :) Now he can brag about it to his friends lol and maybe they will read the book too.

I can now check "writing a sequel" off my to-do list. Defying the Skies, the sequel to Searching the Skies, was released today! (And yes, I already have the title of #3 picked out.)

While I had some mixed feelings the first time I saw the cover (okay, my initial gut reaction was Y NO PANTS), I am falling on the side of liking this one and thinking it's pretty awesome. As I was pondering all my feelings, I decided the boots and the outfit's color scheme reminded me of Tyris Flare from Golden Axe. And then DUH! a friend pointed out that she totally looks like Mieu. So while that outfit might not be entirely logical and appropriate for killing stuff in space (though it worked for Rika? but she had a cape), I'll go with this. Oh, and my heroine Geneva is being renamed Mieuneva Flare.

As always, it's just out from the publisher as of rightthissecond, but (also as always) updates on the different e-versions and maaaaybe some giveaways will be posted on my blog and my alter ego's facebook page.

OHMYGAWD, it IS Mieu! Does this mean Geneva Mieuneva will have laser claws in the next installment? ;)

Anyway, congrats, and I'll wait patiently for the Kindle release!

Hmm, it's been a while since I posted here! I've been trying out some new projects and submitting to different publishers, some of which have longer turnaround times. Either way, I have a new novella out, complete with fabulous cover!

Image

It's part of an ongoing series where anyone can contribute - all the stories are within the framework of an elite matchmaking agency, but beyond that one "rule", the sky's the limit! This is my first time going for a more contemporary setting, though I can't completely leave my action/adventure roots behind! The blurb (and excerpt) can be found in full at Decadent Publishing, and the book is available from all the usual suspects (Amazon, B&N, etc.).

Now back to the promotion trail I go!

Thread necromancy!

So yeah, I missed mentioning a couple publications here (but everything can be found on my site, which is linked in my siggy 8) ), but this one's relevant to PS! I was inspired by the idea of Rykros only being visible/accessible/whatever every 1000 years and wanted to do something with that. I went to carlsojos and asked "Hey, is that a thing that is actually possible?", and apparently it's not outside the realm of plausibility*, so I ran with it.

I LOVE this cover, so I'll post it here. The blurb, excerpt, and links are all neatly compiled into one blog post, if you want to click on through.
