Record of Agarest

Forgive me if I put this in the wrong forum, but it's relating to PSIII to some extent so I thought that it'd be fine here.

Now, there's a game being released in Japan later on this year called Record of Agarest, and it's being called the new Phantasy Star III. It's being compared to it and everything, most notably for the generation system they're advertising. And like Phantasy Star III, I guess each generation they explore a new contintent, much like how in PSIII you explore new worlds every generation.

You can read more about this here.

I will be keeping my eye on this, and I'm wondering what other ideas they're 'borrowing.' It does bother me, I'll admit. Mostly because I thought that PSIII was an awesome game, and well, I'm pretty passionate about it. :D So seeing something like this immediately makes me think that it's just a rip of PSIII's pretty cool ideas. Sure, many games use ideas from others, but the fact that they're comparing it to PSIII and saying it's "formerly Phantasy Star III" really really bothers me on so many levels. >_<

That just doesn't sound right at all. They should promote the game based on it's own abilities and features, not any connection to PSIII... unless of course someone involved in PSIII's design is working on this.

Well, maybe they couldn't get the okay from Sega, so they had to settle for something similar in concept.

Calling a game "formerly Phantasy Star III" is just asking for a lawsuit from Sega, if the developing companies are doing it. I think it was just that one site Tsunami linked, though. I did a Google search on the game and I didn't see remarks like that anywhere else.

From what I read, the battle system sounds like a strategy RPG, along the lines of Shining Force. It was described as being on a grid of squares. All the other sites called the game "Record of Agarest War", too.

All in all, the game sounds interesting. It seems like they are announcing it a bit late, if it's going to come out in just a few months.

True enough. Still, I had to at least criticize this one website and their misleading claims. :D

I've seen that, too. The title "Record of Argarest War" makes me think of the Laya-Orakio war that took place 1,000 years before PSIII takes place, which makes me think that they're 'borrowing' a little too much off PSIII. :p

All in all, I'm very curious about how the finished project will turn out. If I had a Playstation 3, I'd consider renting the game or something just to see for myself.

Heh, yeah, it made me think of that other war, too. It does seem to have a lot of similarities... hopefully it won't share many of PSIII's weakness as well. It will be interesting to see what else is revealed about it in coming months.

I wouldn't mind a new game in the same vein as PSIII, I just hope they flesh out the story more than PSIII did. PSIII had a lot of potential with its concepts, but didn't fulfill that potential. Maybe this Agarest game, whatever the name is, will.

Any more recent news about this game? I haven't heard anything about it in a while.

lol PS3 on the PS3? Hmm, never heard of it. I'm actually more excited than not to play this kind of game, because its always fun to see what kind of remake/copy/whatever that it turns out to be.
Everything has a pattern. Something set. Even random things. They aren't random at all, its complex mathematics. The trick is to find the pattern. Then you can exploit it.

People think things have a certain end. Taxes. Work. Due dates don't really exist. Trust me. When you put a band of world scholars in the same room, and set them on talking about anything, the most interesting topics come up. The existence of negative time. The probability of "random occurrence". The government's involvement in the media. And falsified due dates. They aren't real, trust me....
