Normally, I wouldn't put something like this here, but since the whole story has unfolded and the threats were a hoax, now it belongs here.

So on Monday, shortly after 9 am, I received a text from Harvard that there were suspected bombs in four buildings on campus (I'm signed up for their emergency notifications, so I get texts/e-mails from school for this sort of thing). Now, it's finals week at Harvard, so everyone is taking their final exams, or turning in their final projects. These are scheduled out meticulously, so if one gets cancelled, it can mess things up pretty bad. Well, turns out a psychology undergrad didn't want to take one of his finals. So his solution was to e-mail in hoax bomb threats to the school. They shut down four buildings, including the large Science Center, and had Harvard and Cambridge police on the scene, and eventually Federal agencies. I think it was 1 or 2 in the afternoon before all four buildings finally got the all clear. But yeah, all of that to get out of a final.

Way to throw away a Harvard education and your chances at a future. As well as completely screw up a good number of your fellow students who actually, y'know, PREPARED for their final exams like they're students or something.

Wow, glad this was only a hoax. There is way too much of this type of thing going on in the world today. Poor guy, if he thought he had troubles in not being ready for final exams...now he really has huge problems that will be much worse to handle. Glad everyone is safe.

Bumping this old topic up with a new "ridiculous" story. It seems someone paid a lot of money for a Popeye statue. Anyone remember Popeye....you know the sailor guy who loves to eat his Spinach, has a girlfriend named Olive Oyl, and often gets into fights with his sworn enemy/friend, Brutus?

http://money.msn.com/investing/post--bi ... -sculpture

I don't blame the guy for buying the statue as it's a very beautiful and colorful statue. I just don't see giving that much money for it.

Some "ridiculous" or outrageous cars, etc. :

http://editorial.autos.msn.com/funky-fu ... ncept-cars

While some of them may seem rather cool, almost all of them do not have very much room so I'm wondering where the rest of the family is going to sit and where do you put the groceries and other baggage that people carry around with them???

I really like some of those cars. I love smaller cars, because anymore, I usually see only one person in a car and it seems a huge waste of fuel, materials and space for these people to have to get a usual design. I think getting creative with cars might give people more options. If you only ever drive alone, like for your daily commute, a standard design is a huge waste and a smaller car would probably save both materials and fuel. Not everyone needs the standard design car, because not everyone has a family or carries a lot of stuff, and I think it's about high time we acknowledge that and enable more auto designers to expand consumer options.

Personally I'd love to be able to drive around a Formula One racecar around the block, if only for the reactions of everyone else.

Of course, you'd have to take out like a hundred mortgages to afford one, but it's the thought that counts!
I feel the way you would

Glad you all seemed to like some of the cars mentioned in the article up above. Some of them did not seem all that bad I have to admit.

Okay, moving on, this one could have gone in the Political Ponderings forum but I thought it deserved a spot here better as it seems totally ridiculous to me, but I'd love to hear everyone else's opinions. It seems some Republicans have come up with a new mascot of sorts possibly to try and help them with the upcoming presidential election. What does everyone think about this:

http://news.yahoo.com/squirrel-video-an ... 44071.html

Personally, I love all animals and squirrels are special favorites as we see them, and feed them, outside in our yard all the time. They love popcorn and nuts. We even had one almost come in our livingroom window once as he became so friendly and close to get his daily popcorn, lol. And this squirrel mascot is cute too. However, the election should be more about helping people to find jobs, homes, get insurance, and all the other important stuff that many American homes and families are having to do without these days. Not squirrels, etc. JMHO.
