Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Fri Aug 3, '12, 2:57 am

Did anyone notice the beautiful full moon we had last night??? It was awesome!!! I love full moons!!! :)

August is a very special month this year as there will be two full moons during this month (the next full moon is on August 31), marking a rare occurance known as " Blue Moon " .

I've heard that old saying, "once in a blue moon," plenty of times. Until now, I never stopped to think about the origins of it. It seems like an unfitting name for this second moon in the month phenomenon. With a term like "blue" moon, I'd expect the moon to actually look blue, you know?

Tonight (August 31) is the second full moon of the month, and also a "Blue Moon":

It's also the last day of August...September will soon be here. Goodnesss, the summer is almost over and Fall is soon approaching!! Seems like it wasn't that long ago that we finally got out of Winter here in the USA and heralded Spring in....Where has the time gone???

Did anyone see the "blue moon" last night?

I caught a glimpse of it and it was a beautiful full moon....the sky shone up brightly even in the middle of the dark of night.

There won't be another "blue moon" until 2015, I think it is, or atleast a couple more years anyway.

It was partly cloudy here that night, but the moon was bright enough that I was able to see it. The brightness was rather surprising, really. I wouldn't have even noticed the clouds if the moon hadn't highlighted them in the sky.

Bumping this topic up as last night (Tuesday Aug 20) was supposed to be a Blue Moon night. I've read it may also be true of tonight's moon (Wednesday, Aug 21) in some respects, etc. Did anyone notice the moon last night, and if so, how did it look to you?

I must admit that I did not get a look at the moon last night, but when I looked outside it was apparent that it was a full moon because it was so still so bright and it was very, very late at night. I should have tried to see the Moon but I was too sleepy to spend the extra time.

While it wasn't the colour blue, the moon most certainly was extremely bright last night. It was almost as if someone were shining a flashlight into your eyes making it hard to stare at the moon for an extended period of time.
