Fairly sure it's the translated version, given that it's being called EarthBound instead of Mother. Which of course means no easy patch, which means a LOT of level grinding, lol.

Well, as far as the two Segas were concerned, the Genesis was winding down by 1994 or so- the system was never all that popular in Japan, the Saturn was on the way, and most of the system's releases in the US from 1995 on were from American developers. The last dev studio to abandon the system was EA Sports, which continued publishing for the Genesis up through 1997.
