Phantasy Star: Fringes of Algo

Roger Ebert, one half of Siskel and Ebert and evergreen reviewer for the Chicago Sun-Times, has died today after a resurgence of cancer that began some days prior. the first winner of the Pulitzer Prize for criticism, Ebert's career as a film critic has spanned over 45 years. Perhaps most notable about his particular method is that he did not hold all films to a particular artistic standard, instead grading it based on what it attempted to do. As such, he was no enemy of genre films, as a number of other critics have prided themselves on doing. That isn't to say he didn't give movies poor reviews, but he certainly had his own flourish in doing so. A few choice words-

"The plot of the film does not defy description, but it certainly discourages it."- On Dungeons & Dragons.

"The movie has been signed by Michael Bay. This is the same man who directed "The Rock" in 1996. Now he has made "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." Faust made a better deal."- On, well, you got it.

"No matter what they are charging to get in, it is worth [paying] more to get out." -On Armageddon.

"There is a scene in the movie where a kid drops a corkscrew down a garbage disposal. Then the camera goes inside the garbage disposal to watch while he fishes around for it. "[Roy] Schneider was nominated for a 2000 Razzie Award for Worst Supporting Actor, but lost to Jar Jar Binks. But Schneider is correct, and [Los Angeles Times film critic] Patrick Goldstein has not yet won a Pulitzer Prize. Therefore, Goldstein is not qualified to complain that Columbia financed Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo while passing on the opportunity to participate in Million Dollar Baby, Ray, The Aviator, Sideways, and Finding Neverland. Very sad to hear of Mr. Ebert's passing. May he rest in peace. He fought a great battle and left the world a little bit better during his time here. He will be remembered certainly. I can't always say that I agreed with his views on some movies, however, I can say that he was always entertaining in giving his views. He was wonderful teamed up with Siskel. My condolences to his family.
