SPACE FURY

Remembering the games of yesteryear.

SPACE FURY

One of SEGA's early hits before they got into the console business. Came out in 1981 during the golden age of video games, as that era is called. It's a vector graphic-based game with many similarities to Asteroids. It's an unlockable in SEGA Genesis Collection for the PSP, and if I'm not mistaken it's also unlockable in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Since MAME doesn't play the speech synth at the proper speech and/or pitch, this is the only video I could find of the actual arcade cabinet in action. This game was also ported to the Colecovision.

I've never really heard of this game before but after having watched this : I'm not very fond of vector games so I don't think I'll really appreciate it but why not try to...try it ? ;)

I've never seen that one before now, either. You were understating when you said it has similarities to Asteroids! That's almost a straight up clone. The addition of power ups was a nice touch, as was the inversion of the "asteroids" combining rather than breaking into smaller parts. I did like the alien, it had a pretty good voice and some nice vector work. This looks like it would have been quite a bit of fun in the arcade back in the day. Thanks for sharing it with us!
