Happy Veteran's Day!

Celebrating all those special times in each year.

Happy Veteran's Day!

Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Sat Nov 10, '07, 8:05 pm

I posted this in the "Holidays" thread, but since it is such an important holiday, I thought it was worth mentioning in a seperate thread.

Sunday, November 11, will be Veteran's Day in the US. It is an official holiday and will be celebrated on Monday, November 12, this year.

There are usually various celebrations, parades, ceremonies, and recognitions to honor America's Veterans in many cities and towns across the US on the days leading up to and on this particular holiday.

So, if you have a Veteran in your family, or if you know of a Veteran, please take a few minutes to thank them for their service to our country.

I saw a few Veteran's Parades mentioned on TV this morning. I'm sure our town has some sort of local parade/celebration/festivity to honor Veteran's Day, but I'm just not sure what it is this year. I know the town newspaper usually has a centerpage with the names listed of all the Veterans (past, present) from the town that they know of and families can turn in the names of a relative or friend if it is not listed there so it will be listed next year.

I put the new few paragraphs below in the "Getting To Know You" thread for the question related to Veteran's Day there, but thought I would list it here also since this is also for Veteran's Day.

My Father and a few uncles have served in previous wars. Also probably some great- great-'s too in times past. I think a couple of my great-great-grandfathers (or something close to that) served in the Confederate War. More recently, I think the husband of a second-cousin (or something like that) has served some time in Afghanstan or Iraq, I'm not sure which.

Remembering them all on Veteran's Day, and thanking them for their service. :usa:

Some of my great uncles were veterans. I never knew much about their experiences, but I'm thankful for everyone that served to protect our freedoms.
