Phantasy Star III: Ayn Writing

Postby Thoul » Fri Apr 22, '11, 12:00 am

In the Alisa III's strange mixture of feudal life and high technology as envisioned by Toyo Ozaki, some luxuries we take for granted do not exist. Writing instruments, for example, are rather basic. Ayn here must use a quill dipped in ink as a pen. I wonder what he might be writing here? Perhaps it is a love letter, but would it be addressed to Sari or Thea?

Yeah, the mix of medieval and technology is sometimes a bit strange in PSIII, but honestly I think a quill pen is a bit overboard. Oh well, it's still a cute picture of Ayn. I'd say based on the typical anime sweating and flush cheeks that he's either really nervous about what he's writing or really embarrassed by what he's writing. A love letter seems quite plausible to me.

"Dear Sari,

I've chosen to marry Thea. Please don't come after me and stab me in the chest. Thanks.

Love Your Good Buddy,
Ayn"

Or, is it:

"Dearest Thea,

I have chosen to marry Sari and reclaim the land of my father. Please don't set me on fire.

Love Your Cousin, Ayn"

Nice Image. The blue color contrasts very well with the solid white. I think the quill pen is a great touch to the pic.

According to an unofficial character compendium by Toyo Ozaki and its translation by Capowski, Ayn once sent a love letter to Mieu when he was a child. However, Mieu sent it back and corrected all spelling errors. As a result, little Ayn cried all night. I find this idea rather cute.
If anyone is interested in reading this translation, here is the link. Though I guess you are probably familiar with this homepage already :)
