Bird Drawing - American Kestrel

Postby Wolf Bird » Sat Dec 25, '10, 6:36 pm

New drawing (and another to follow) of an American Kestrel! This was for my brother and his girlfriend for Christmas. I wanted to scan it on my mom's computer, but the scanner was having a hissy fit, so she took a picture instead. Tip of the tail got cut off a bit, so sorry about that. Anyway, I'm happy with this, mostly. Can't find any major thing to criticize, other than just keep striving for general improvement. :)

Beautiful bird and drawing, CW! :)

I'm not very familiar with this bird so I'll have to get my bird guide book out and read up on this one. Can't remember ever seeing one of those in our area. Fascinating!!!

So, is a kestrel a bird of prey? It sure looks like one with those talons. Great art as usual.

Yeah, Kestrels are a kind of small falcon. When I say small, I mean REALLY small. The males, which are smaller than females, are about the size of a robin. It's also one of the few birds of prey I know of in which the male and female are colored somewhat differently...this one is a male. Thanks guys! :)

I've never seen a bird like this one. It reminds of a tiger with that striped pattern. From the look of the kestral, I imagine it must be an equally fierce predator. Really great work, CW. I've learned something new about birds from this topic!
