Alair Question

Postby H-Man » Wed Oct 27, '10, 2:53 pm

How old is Alair when she meets (and/or marries Nial)? I ask that question because we are to understand that Rhys' fiddling with the moons is what ultimately causes Alair and Lune to awaken from their cryogenic sleep. If so, was their awakening immediate, or did it take a few years. If she was an adolescent when she "went to sleep", and woke up immediately after Rhys changed the position of the moons, then she'd have to be over 30 (setting aside those 1000 years, of course) when she met Nial. If she was a little child, then she'd be a little closer to his age (once again ignoring those 1000 years). Otherwise, if she was an adolescent when she was put in cryogenic sleep, we'd have to assume that it still took several years before her and Lune actually woke up.
*H-Man as Chaz, looks at Rika, aka Paula* Chaz-Man- "Hey, I've been wandering around Motavia for quite a while with you now. It says in that weird blue box up there that one more battle with a sandworm and we can level up to husband and wife!"

Maybe she initially woke up, but kept telling Lune "just five more minutes" and hit the snooze button on the cryogenic chamber for the next 18 years.

I think she's 19 years old (physically) in Nial's time.

I believe the awakening of Alair was delayed. Here is what she tells Ayn's sons:
I'm Alair, Lune's sister. I also have been frozen in a cryogenics pod for 1,000 years. When I woke up, I was kidnapped by Orakians. Of course, that made my brother more furious. Yes, we were the ones who destroyed Satera. But we're not behind the recent monster attacks. We hope you can forgive us for our past errors.

I doubt she would have lasted nearly twenty years in an Orakian dungeon, especially if taken there as a child. There's also no dialogue to suggest she had been imprisoned for a long time or that the people in Divisia had the ability to hold her that long. I must conclude that her awakening from cryo sleep was fairly recent during the events of Nial's rescue.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no definitive source for Alair's age. Nial was 18, however, so her late teen years sounds about right.

The Unofficial Character Book for PSIII says that Alair is 1038 and physically 19 at the start of the second generation. I guess that would be good of guess as any.

That's Toyo Ozaki's book, right? I would go with that, then. It's the most official source for a lot of ages and dates regarding PSIII.

Hm, I can't recall anything saying they were twins. I've always thought of Lune as being older than Alair. It just doesn't seem right to have a teenager for a general in the Layan armies.

Just because almost everyone else in the game is twin doesn't mean Lune and Alair are too :-D

OK - not "almost everyone else" but there are plenty of twins in the game - Lune and Alair are not one of them anywhere I've read.
