Don't they call it football elsewhere? I'm not sure. Gets confusing for me.

I'm not sure about other places calling soccer "football". It's possible, I suppose. Other places or countries have different ways of doing things that are traditions, etc., just like we in the USA do. I'll look into that and see what I can find.

Getting back to other sports for a moment though, is anyone else watching and waiting for Barry Bonds to hit the BIG home run score that will tie or pass the current record (set last by Hank Aaron, I believe but could be mistaken on that). I've seen on the news where they have been waiting for days for him to make this special home run and I don't think it has happened yet, although it should be betting very close.

They showed folks in kayaks (boats) out in the lake waiting just in case the ball comes in that direction. Sounds silly in a way, but then They told about some guy that recovered a ball hit there for some other special record years ago and the guy wound up selling that special ball and making a great deal of money off of it.

Where's my boat!

Yeah, the US is the only country that doesn't call it that. It's even futbol in Spanish. Football makes a lot more sense, than what "football" is in the US. The ball is kicked a lot less than it is carried and thrown! :)

One Wiki quote kinda.. gives an explanation.

While it is widely believed that the word "football" (or "foot ball") originated in reference to the action of a foot kicking a ball, there is a rival explanation, which has it that football originally referred to a variety of games in medieval Europe, which were played on foot.

I don't watch any sports or play any sports anymore.
I used to play baseball, basketball, soccer, football, etc.
I love all of those but my favourite is basketball.
