What Do You Think Sega will do for PS Next

Postby Flames of Yagami » Fri Aug 20, '10, 4:20 am

Since ps portable 2 is coming to the states next month what do you think is going to happen with the series? Sega probably thinks another online or universe title is the most logical thing to do, but I (and probably a lot of you guys too) think that they should finally translate PS Gen 1&2 and release them for PSN/XBLA and/or PSP.
Whatever Sega does, I guess it's okay as long as sonic the werehog doesn't get his own game

They’re probably just going to make a similar game to PSU for the PS3 or something I think. But who knows. I also heard some rumours that downloadable content was being produced for PS Zero and extra stages but nothing seems to have become of that yet.

I’d love to see PS Generation 1 & 2 translated but I doubt Sega will do it. :bang:

They'll probably release another Universe or online title. It'll probably do better than any re-release of older titles. I WISH they'd re-release older titles, but I can't see it happening. :(

I really think they will only release another MMORPG using the Phantasy Star franchise, but nothing other than that. As they have not released a new regular Phantasy Star RPG in 15 years, most probably they will never do that since, as the years go by, it makes less and less sense.

As for translating the PS Generation, I think if they didn't do yet, they'll never do anymore. Though we still hold the candle for it, as the time passes, less and less people are interested in old Phantasy Star.

Translations are more likely than PSV at the very least, I guess all we can do is hope (or just learn Japanese and mod a ps2), but still SEGA SHOULD START LISTENING TO THE FANS INSTEAD OF GIVING US MEDIOCRE SONIC GAMES (but I guess that's why sonic 4 and possibly colors were made)

Are you kidding me? Do you know how many times Phantasy Star 2-4 has been re-released?

It seems 2 and 3 get the most re-releases.

Let's see.. on the Wii, Xbox 360, Sega Genesis Collection for PS 2, Another collection for PS 3, Sega Smash pack for PC, Sega smash pack DC, Gameboy advance ports, Gametap, PSP..

Well Phantasy Star IV only seems to be on Wii, 360 and those Sega Genesis Collection/Sonic Ultimate collection.

The older games have been re-released alot. The only one that seems to miss out is Phantasy Star 1.

Rick, I looking at my post, I realize now I got way too general. Yes, I do know how many times most of the classic games have been re-released. So let me straighten myself out...

I wish they would translate the various Japan-only titles, namely the Gens games. However, I do not see that happening and if there's another game it'll probably be another MMORPG.

And maybe give PS1 more re-releases, but I'm pretty sure that's at least on the Wii's VC.

Admittedly, once the Genesis got outdated, I basically stopped following PS related news/games and haven't really bothered to fully figure out what's what after PSIV.

PSI was in the latest collection releases, also. So it's available on all the current consoles.

Realistically, I think the next thing we can look forward to regarding the original series is another collection of Sega games on the next generation of consoles. I'd love the see the Generation games translated, but that's less likely as time passes. They may be included in another collection a couple of consoles down the line, but they probably won't be translated for that.

The next original game will likely be either a new MMO series or a sequel to Zero.

Sega will (unfortunately) be doing ANOTHER hack-and-slash Online Multiplayer RPG for its next game. It was already mentionned in an interview with the current producer for the series, that after the success of Phantasy Star on portable console, they want to go back on the home console, and since they 10th anniversary of PSO is coming, they want to do a special project for it. If they're doing something PSO related, it's surely an online game.
