Phantasy Star Trading Card Game

Postby Atlinsmere » Wed Aug 18, '10, 6:49 am

Introduction
I remember back in Grade four, I started to make my own PSIV card game, and I even had around 50 cards drawn up. Sadly, all I have is card left and half of it is missing. I remember that the rules were based more on that of Yu-Gi-Oh, since at the time that's the only card game I played at the time besides Pokemon when I was younger.

However, if I were to do this now, I'd completely remake it with my own rules. However, this would be a large project and I would need a lot of help. Heck, who knows, I might even figure out a way to convert into an online game. But for now, I suppose they'd be collectible.

Well, here's what I got so far. All content below this point is subject to change at any time.
--------------------------------------------------------------

Character Cards
Each character will have four stats.

  • HP - Each character will start with predetermined Hit Points (HP). These are needed for a character to stay out on the field. Once a characters HP reaches zero, they will be knocked out and put in the graveyard pile.
  • TP -Technique Points (TP) are used for special abilities and skills that a character has on their card. Each character has a predetermined amount of TP and, once this value reaches zero, or there isn't enough TP to cast anymore. A character will be stuck attacking only.
  • ATK - Attack (ATK) is used to determine the damage done to the opponent. If ATK is higher than DEF, subtract enemies HP with your characters ATK. Also, divide your ATK in half and subtract it form enemies DEF.
  • DEF - Defense (DEF) is used as a natural shield. If DEF is higher than the opponents ATK, then half damage is taken.

Hopefully I didn't lose anyone there. If you have any questions about what I meant just ask and I'll give an example.

I tried to create one of those many a year ago myself. I had a pretty big group of PS fans willing the help with it, too. We could never agree on much of anything regarding the rules, though, so the project stagnated and died off. A few other folks have tried to make a PS card game at some points too, but I think their projects all ended before producing anything, too.

Anyway, I think it's a good idea. Coming up with unique rules is very hard, though.

Well, I'm updating my last post now with what I got so far. For the most part, I will take suggestions and if I think it is a good idea, I will implement it. Otherwise I'll be making the rules myself and how the game works. If I can, I want to keep this as simple as possible as to not confuse people.

Just a prototype card I made. Thanks to Kaloes for some info and choosing Kyra. I also have a desert background made. It will look better in the future. Trust me.

Seems like a trend among younger PS fans, I also tried my hand at that years ago. I also tried to make a Babylon 5 card game which was actually better than my PS attempt. Both however failed miserably.

Seeing how Sega couldn't even make a decent one with PSO-3, I'd recommend investing your energy in a more viable project, but that's just me being realist.

Realist is boring, feel free to disregard my advice :P

That is always true Aero, but this isn't a main priority thing. This is basically something fun to do on the side. Even if I only make the cards for collecting reasons, I think it'd be pretty fun.

Right now however, I just want feedback on what the prototype card looks like. ^_^

The smaller text is a bit hard to see on that background. It might look better if the text had an antialias applied.
