Brigit raised her eyebrows. She was beginning to think CJ, though young, felt like an old friend, the kind you barely tolerate and aren't really sure why you keep them around except that you know that their friendship is worth it in the end, and that didn't happen to her very often. Or at all, actually.

She smirked at him as he cooly played off what he had told her. She remembered what Magnus had written about fate in one of his journals and tried to pass it off as one of her own lines. "Don't be a slave to fate, CJ. Fate's plan for me was to turn me into a machine, but I'm still human. I'm still human! Fate can go to hell."

Wow. Did she really just say that? Awkward, Brigit though.

CJ laughed, it wasn't the response he expected. "If I am a slave to fate, then so be it. That's the answer I gave when my old teacher told me the exact same thing. He was a wise man. Though perhaps it was that wisdom that makes me despise him."

"You despise wisdom?" Brigit rolled her eyes. "Look, I know I probably look young to you, but..." she paused. "Hey, wait. Your teacher used to say the same thing to you?" Brigit looked down. "Oh," she said simply in a low voice. "Maybe my friend isn't as original as I think he is. Or... wait... was your teacher named Magnus, by chance?"

Charlie was surprised. While he had a hunch they knew the same person, it still came as a surprise how fast this little game came to an end. "It seems fate has struck again," Cj got off the wall, "Magnus was my teacher." Twisting his right hand, three silver claws came from his glove. "He taught me in how to use claws, and gave me these as a gift. I don't know much about him though, and have always wondered."

Looking at the sheet on the floor, he also said, "He tried to teach me the ways of Alchemy but found I had no talent for it, or so he said."

CJ had no idea what his words meant to Brigit. He must not have known about Mangus's true fate as a cyborg, and it also occurred to Brigit that perhaps Magnus had never bothered searching for her since it wasn't such a big revelation to CJ. Two hundred years. Two hundred years, Brigit repeated in her mind.

Brigit balled up on the floor and started crying. She hadn't cried in such a long time, but if there was a moment to let the tears flow, now would be an appropriate time.

"He never mentioned me, did he?" she wailed.

When Brigit started crying, CJ didn't know what to do. He never made any girl cry before and it made him feel bad. He extended his hand partway then pulled back, reminding himself he wasn't there to make friends.

"He did mention he was looking for something. He didn't say what it was however. Unfortunately, Magnus didn't share a lot with me."

Brigit stood up and let out a very emotional side to an unwitting CJ. She fisted his cloak and looked into his eyes with every bit of pain her artificial eyes could deliver. "He's my soul mate!" she bawled. "I just know it! We... we were screwed by scientists, but... we were supposed to be together! I've been looking for him for over..."

She realized what she was doing and took her hands away. "I'm so sorry. I know this doesn't matter to you. CJ, I'm not human. Neither is Magnus. I have to know why we were turned into experiments! I have to find him!" She hid her face in her hands and continued to cry.

"I don't know about soul mates. But I know you two have a very similiar aura," CJ thought a moment, "Besides, only a human could display such emotions." He wasn't sure if it was going to help any, but those were the only words he thought he could use.

"Well, I'm not not human. I guess," Brigit sniffled. She wondered if CJ had noticed she had no tears. Probably. This is exactly why crying was bad, because it made people wonder about her, though she'd already told him, as crazy as she probably sounded, that she wasn't human, anyway. Suddenly she laughed.

"You know, what's funny about my emotions is that I'm displaying them because I'm, well, crazy. See this?" she turned around and lifted up her long braid and pulled down her collar, exposing a deep hole just below the nape of her neck. "Some stupid kids stole my key a very long time ago and I can't adjust myself now. Sometimes I try jamming a fork or pen down there just to see if I can open my main access panel again, but it never works. The kids thought it would be funny to make me addicted to cigarettes, too. I'm a mess, CJ, but you know what? It kind of feels nice telling someone this. Thanks." She gave him a faint grin, hoping he wouldn't think she was completely batty.

CJ gave her an odd look, but then he couldn't help laughing, "Trust me when I say you aren't the craziest person I've met." He put his hand on the wall, leaning up against it. "Believe me," a strange symbol began to glow on the wall, "Each person I've met is but a stepping stone on the river of Fate." The symbol spun and began to shine brighter, catching CJ's eye.

"What the f-," CJ was interrupted as a small portion of the wall turned to water, causing him to fall through, finding himself sliding down the slippery rocks, using his axe, he managed to dig it into the ground. But he hung dangling on the side of a crevice.
