National Doughnut Day

Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Thu Jun 3, '10, 8:02 pm

Tomorrow, Friday, is National Doughnut Day! :happy_marle:

http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Sm ... =1,1764853

Some places may be giving away free doughnuts. You might want to check around in your area and see if any places there are giving away freebie doughnuts. Let us know if you find any.

Any doughnut fans here on the board, and if so, what is your favorite type of doughnut???? I love Krispy Kreme's.

Also, what do you think is the correct spelling for this word....is it "doughnut" or "donut"???

Did anyone get a free donut anywhere today? I didn't find any free ones, so I wound up buying a dozen in honor of the day.

Got some plain donuts and some white powdered donuts. Haven't tried them yet but plan to eat one as a snack later.

I didn't know anyhting about this until just now. :(
My doughnut opinions:

Oh, I like those creme filled donuts from KK's and their French Cruelers.

Has anyone noticed that for the last couple of years now that KK donuts smell like that gas the dentist uses to make you feel lightheaded and numb during paticularly painful dental proceedures? Oh well, flavor is still the same.

Dunkin Doughnuts tends to have the better frosted doughtnuts, but I haven't had one in over a year because they went out of site on their prices.

For powdered sugar doughnuts I like those "Sweet Sixteen" sloganed ones, for which I do not recall the branding, Merita's perhaps?. Entemanns has the best chocolate covered cake doughnuts.

Winn-Dixie use to have excellent glazed varities of doughnuts before they went out of business some years back, but it seems like Ingles may have bough or figured out a similar recipe as theirs on right on par. Publix makes a good bulgarian cream filled and decent glazed doughnuts. Bi-Lo use to make great plain glazed doughnuts before partnering with KK to provide doughnuts to their deli-bakery department.

Not a doughnut, but worth mentioning. Some odd-ball grocery store named "The Fresh Market" makes fantasic Glazed Honey Pecan Cinnamon Buns.

I didn't see any place offering free doughnuts in my area, sadly.

Chocolate or powered sugar doughnuts are my preference. Back in elementary school, I used to take my own lunch nearly every day. I usually had a doughnut or two in there. I wish I could remember the brand. I think they might have been Hostess or perhaps some brand that has gone out of business.

Glazed or plain doughnuts never really appealed to me, though. The same with Krispy Kreme. I prefer doughnuts that are smaller than the KK ones I always see.

I like those, too. I think the brand is Blue Bird, but I'm not sure either. It's been a while since I bought any doughnuts.

Would you believe I forgot to eat a donut yesterday!

Got busy and simply forgot it. I made up for it today though.

Bumping this up for 2011 as today is "National Doughnut Day"! :)

http://specials.msn.com/A-List/Lifestyl ... d=28979707

OMG, I wish I had known this earlier when I was in town grocery shopping and was surrounded by so many scumptious looking doughnuts everywhere, but alas, I guess I missed out on doughnuts for today.

Did anyone else get to partake of any "free" doughnuts, or otherwise kind of doughnuts on this special day today???

Happy doughnut day. :)

Aw, missed it again. :( I have no doughnuts to eat today, either. Maybe next year we can catch this one. ;)

Guess what??? Today, Friday, June 1, 2012, is National Doughnut Day once again!!!

There still might be time to look and see if anyone in your area is giving away free doughnuts in honor of the occassion:

http://hip2save.com/2012/05/31/national ... ansmsnbc11

Now, this is what gripes me...I went to town today and not knowing it was National Doughnut Day, I didn't even buy any doughnuts much less try and get a free one!!!!!!!!!

This day just eludes me every year for some reason, lol. One of these days I'm gonna get me a doughnut on National Doughnut Day.

If anyone else out there is enjoying doughnuts, then don't tell me about how good and tasty they are, especially today. Shhhhh!!!!!

Wow, I'm a over a month late on this, huh? I can't believe this is the first time I'm hearing of a day dedicated to doughnuts, not that I eat them too often, but still. There's a chain of bakeries where I live called Busken and IMO their doughnuts (especially my favorite kind, the glazed ones) give Dunkin' Dounts a run for it's money.

The donut shops like that need to promote this day more. It might get them an increase in customers!
