PS3: Origin of the Sapphire?

Postby PSjunkie » Fri Apr 16, '10, 1:39 am

Does anyone actually know where the Sapphire that opens up the Landen-Aquatica tunnel originates from. In Mike R's "Rhys Adventure", Satera has the Sapphire and Lyle steals it to prevent Rhys from following him back to Aquatica. While another source says that Lyle did a lot of traveling and acquired it in Aridia.

What are some of your theories where the Sapphire comes from?

Edit: I just figured it out myself, if I didnt post this I wouldnt of figured it out myself.

I apologize if you guys think this is a waste of time and space.

I thought Lyle got it in Aridia, too, but I have no idea where I remember seeing that.

It's from Landen. The guy above the weapon shop there mentions a monster stealing it recently and flying south in both the English and Japanese versions after Maia is kidnapped. The monster is of course Lyle, as the island where Rhys meets him is to the south.

In the English version, the guy hints at Lyle's transformation ability, but in the Japanese he doesn't. He also calls it the "Forest Sapphire" in the Japanese translation.

Also in the Japanese version, Lyle himself tells Rhys he "stole your royal family's heirloom," further implying it came from Landen.

Thanks to Tanith I was able to go over the japanese-english script, this is what I got.

Landen

Townspeople (Men):
- If you have the "Forest Sapphire", you'll be able to enter the
eastern cave!

Conclusion: It can't come from Aridia.

Man above Weapon Shop:
- Just a little while ago, a monster stole the key to this world, the
"Forest Sapphire", from the castle and flew toward an island to the
south.

Conclusion: Sapphire comes from Landen Castle, so why didn't Rhy's father give him the Sapphire to look for Maia. Lyle would of taken it just before the wedding (highly unlikely), or after he returned Maia to Cille.

Ilan (after meeting Mieu)
- I saw the dragon that took Miss Marlena go to another world.
If only we had the "Forest Sapphire", the key to opening the way to
that world, we could chase after it!

Conclusion: Rhys has a on lead Maia. He needs the Sapphire to get to another world.

Old Man (Ship Captain):
Well, WELL! Come join me on my boat!
By the way, I hear that a powerful man is guarding some jewelry in a deep,
dark cave down on the island.

Conclusion: The Sapphire is on the Island Cave.

Island Cave

My name is Lyle La Mirah! I haven't held you up for too long, have I?
I was the one who stole your royal family's heirloom "Forest Sapphire"!
I'll give it back to you!
The truth is, I wanted to travel along with you to see many different
things...
...such as the world...or you...
But, the fact is, I have to go do some things to help out my comrades...
Perhaps we'll meet again someplace...

Conclusion: Rhys must be a complete idiot not to realise that Lyle is the Dragon. Npc's talk about a dragon stealing the sapphire from the castle flying to the Island Cave. Lyle admits he stole the Sapphire, without so many words he admits he's the Dragon (C'mon Rhys I thought you were smarter than this), Lyle hands over the Sapphire, why would he do that if he wants to prevent him from finding Maia.
In Rhys's defense love is blind, all he was focused on is finding Maia.
Mieu was with him and didnt pick up on it?

Conclusion: In my fan game, i'll make sure this part makes sense.

Don't forget that Rhys' father also just didn't want Rhys to go after Maia. So he wouldn't have given Rhys the Sapphire even if Lyle didn't steal it. That may actually be why Lyle stole it in the first place. He may have intended to give it to Rhys himself all along.

But he sent Rhys to the dungeon to call off, he knew that he would go after Maia no matter what.
The king knew the knife, monitor and 300 meseta were in the jail cell, he should of put the sapphire in the jail cell aswell. It would of been better for Rhys to go it alone then send out a whole army to go after Maia.

I think Lyle wanted to test Rhys in every way. Most likely Lyle knew of the way Rhys would act due to either 1: His Orakian blood which may cause him to jump before thinking or 2: He spoke with Lena about it and she explained to him that he might of reacted that way to get thrown in jail, which in turn caused Lyle to steal the Sapphire while Lena rescues Rhys from his prison cell.

Lyle, seeing that Rhys had successfully escaped from the dungeon decided that he wanted to test Rhys even further by giving Rhys a "trial" so to speak, in which he handed the Sapphire over to Rhys, in return if Rhys lived long enough to make it to Cille, he would test his might against Rhys' strength, both physically, and spiritually.

Lyle hands over the Sapphire, why would he do that if he wants to prevent him from finding Maia.

You forget there is a reason stated in the game as to why Lyle handed it over.

You all forget one thing. To fix the weather tower, you need a full blooded descendant of Orakio.

The only one that qualified to Lyle was RHYS.

The Orakian lands in Aquatica were at war with the Layan lands. No help there.

So Rhys had to get the GEM to get to Aquatica to go to Aridia to get Wren and fix the tower. How else would Rhys get to Aridia? Rhys also had to go across the sea and the only way was to fix the weather tower.

Japanese PS 3 has the Lashute Sages (when they turn evil) explaining a little more than the english ones.

The king knew the knife, monitor and 300 meseta were in the jail cell, he should of put the sapphire in the jail cell aswell. It would of been better for Rhys to go it alone then send out a whole army to go after Maia.

Actually the king was right. In the japanese PS 3 he says:

Kein:
!
What!
Mar, Marlena!
Where did you go?!
MARLENA! MARLENA! MARLENA! Marlena...
Just you wait, disciple of Laia! Knights of the lakes! Knights of the
mountains! Knights of the forests! We are going to seek out and destroy
that heretic!

King:
Fool! What do you think you're doing, calling out the royal knights and
rushing off the start a war and chase after some "disciple of Laia" that
you don't even know where it went!
Maybe in the dungeon you'll cool your head and think about your
responsibilities as a prince!

(Guards step forward to take Kein away.)

Kein:
Father!
Mother!
Marlena!

LAYANS did not exist in Landen. At the time Rhys was marrying MAIA, no Layans existed in Landen. Let's go further.. At Rhys' time, people just knew a gem could open a cave.

The King saved Rhys from using resources and chasing after something that doesn't exist. Where would Rhys find the Layan? None existed in Landel so the King reminded Rhys of his responsibilities.

As we see when Rhys marries Maia, his kingdom suffered because he didn't listen to his father.

The King wanted Rhys to calm down and go after Maia RESPONSIBLY. Not take the whole damn army and fail.

Oh, The English PS 3 added extra lines to the Rhys dialogue. See in the japanese, Rhys doesn't want to go after Maia. He wants to destroy the heretic who kidnapped her. He doesn't have the extra line he does in the english.

Rhys original anger is at who kidnapped Maia, not that she was kidnapped XD

Brings a whole nother light to Rhys

Yes thats true you needed a full blooded Orakian to fix the weather tower, I didn't forget that.
The point im going from is that Lyle's main priority was to find Maia before helping his people, he has the same personality as Rhys: They dont care about anything else except getting Maia back.
Once he rescued Maia and brought her back to Cille, as a Dragon he could of done that within 1 day PS time, his next goal was to fix the weather in Aquatica. Yes I do think Lyle has been in Aridia before but only to find Maia. After he returned Maia and lost the Sapphire to Rhys he went to Aridia, taking Rhys's journey from Landen - Aquatica - Aridia that would of atleast taken 10 days, Lyle had plenty of time to find a way to fix the weather tower. Lyle probably went to Hazatak to find how to fix it but didn't care what the Androids have to say and fix it himself. Thats when he tried to fix it himself and on his way out came across Rhys.
If he knew he needed a full blooded orakian why didn't he just join Rhys in the Island Cave.

Don't worry my story telling abilities and grammar will have improved by the time there's a demo release. :)
Im still in the phase of improving my artwort and making a coherent story.

@ Rick: It's pretty obvious your very knowledgeable in PS3, perhaps I could send you a laundry list of my idea's and story and you clean it up a little. :D

I didn't forget about the weather tower either, I'm just not sure it's relevant to Lyle's actions at that early point of the game. Do we know when the weather nosedived into winter? The game does say it was a very sudden change, so the weather might have been normal with sunny days when Lyle left the dome to locate Maia. Lyle may have first discovered this problem after returning to his home dome with Maia in tow.

Unless there's more direct evidence to point to when the weather changed and when Lyle first tried to fix the tower himself, I personally can't assume that all happened before the rescue of Maia or played a role in Lyle's rescue plan.

Kaloes may be on to something with the idea of Lyle wanting to test Rhys. Lyle may have realized that Rhys might follow after Maia and wanted to see how dedicated and what kind of man his cousin was about to marry.
