Jap PS2, Mother Brain is.. God?

Postby Rick » Thu Apr 15, '10, 6:00 am

Now this is from Japanese PS 2. Notice.. the fanatacism and who is credited for creating ALGO the way it is.

Commander- Good morning Agent Yushisu. How are you doing? You have been working for my department for nearly 2 years. The assignment I am about to give to you is of great tactical importance as it decides the future of our planet. As you know already, the computer Mother Brain created this solar system. As head of the development plan, I was ordered to study Mother Brain's progress. I had been believing that what Mother Brain does is the word of god, however, I am starting to become suspicious recently as these "biological monsters" are beginning to spawn in our planet

Now the interesting part is:

As you know already, the computer Mother Brain created this solar system. As head of the development plan, I was ordered to study Mother Brain's progress. I had been believing that what Mother Brain does is the word of god

Now the Librarian:

The Mother Brain- The Mother Brain is the central control system computer of Motabia. It controls the entire Algolian star system.

And..

Oh our mighty Mother Brain, do help us and bring us enlightenment! (doesn't a Zio-worshipper in 4 say this right before going into convulsions?)

So.. Mother Brain is GOD?

So since the japanese Ps 2 says that Mother Brain fears Lutz and Lutz is the only one who can stand up to her.. Is Lutz Satan? XD Or are the roles reversed?

Why is Mother Brain scared of a sleeping man who can't do his own tasks?

* Zio = Mother Brain based on PS 2 !

Or.. Zio = FATHER BRAIN who just wanted a little daughter named Demi to use...

P.S. This is all in jest but Mother Brain CREATED ALGO? Now that's some damn good brainwashing! Also.. Zio = Father Brain? XD

The Commander, er, Governor Viceroy McStupidhead, sure does seem gullible.

It's all a part of a totalitarian rule, though. People are less likely to question what the government does if it's also their religion.

Mother Brain seems to be regarded as a god in the English version too. The comparison is not as direct because the word "god" is never used, but god-like qualities are applied to her. Here's two quotes from the Commander and two lines from NPCs.

As you know, Algo has been brought up by Mother Brain. My work as a Commander has been to smoothly promote the plans of Mother Brain. I had believed that Mother Brain never makes mistakes.

I have always believed that Mother Brain is absolutely right all the time, and that our life is protected by Mother Brain.

Mother Brain is watching over us, right? Then, why do accidents happen?

The Biosystems Lab is controlled by Mother Brain. It cannot make mistakes!

These quotes all apply God-like attributes to Mother Brain. Perfection, watching over people, and even questioning why accidents happen as if Mother Brain can prevent them. It's not as extreme as creating the planets, but it's still there.

I think the english version makes mother brain more like a mother raising her people of Algo. A benevolent mother.

The jap one makes her seem like GOD.

Anyways, So Mother Brain gets a Zio speech.. So do we have Father Zio then? XD Father Brain Zio anyone?

Anyways, Just a interesting word use for debate.

Also, the commander uses the verb "believe" which is more faith-based than other verbs like "know" or "think."

Rick- I can't really compare Mother Brain to Zio. I suppose they do have some similarities, but Zio's religion wasn't embraced by the majority of the population. It was more of a cult, and plenty of people had a fair amount of skepticism towards it. Zio also didn't control the government.

What government anyways? Mota didn't have a central government..

I'm sure if it did, Zio would have captured it.

I just find it amusing Zio gets the same fanatical speech xd

Father Zio eh? Sorta like Father Rahl?

Father Zio is rather fitting, I like that more than Zio the Holy One.

I always thought it was odd that Motavia lacked a government, too. Especially give the presence of the Academy. It's hard to believe a school could be so large and active without some kind of governmental backing. Aideo also seems to be the only town with any kind of law enforcement or prison. Motavia seems really lawless, which is strange to me.

True, and Zio was wiping out whole towns and what-not on his quest to power. PSIV was sort of like the Wild West.

I remember watching on one of the videos that becomes unlocked on the Sega Mega Drive Collection. The guy talks about how he purposely gave Mother Brain a Goddess like appearance to overall fit with her role in the game.

The same thing seems to have applied with Mother Trinity in Phantasy Star Zero. She looks somewhat Goddess like, but reminds of the pharaoh Cleopatra it must be the fact she wears a crown. :blank:

I'd have to check what word is used in the original game, but I think the use indicates that Mother Brain created Algo in the 'made Algo what it [was]' (i.e. - advanced technology, Motavia being more than just a desert planet, etc.) sense, not that Mother Brain literally made the solar system from scratch like a Algolian version of creationism. SoA's translation of "As you know, Algo has been brought up by Mother Brain" seems to sort of support this, even if the wording is a bit off.

I'll go back sometime and look at the exact word the Japanese game used. It's just all in kana so it's a pain to read. :P
