Fringes of Algo RP (Idea discussion)

Postby Atlinsmere » Wed Mar 17, '10, 9:03 pm

Intro
Hey everyone, Atlin here. This is sorta a secret project I was working on for a month now. I was looking through some old topics and saw Thoul post this so I figured I'd try my take at it. =P
Thoul wrote:Hey, that is really good work. It captures the real feel of Phantasy Star IV much better than that horrible pirate artwork.

I wish I could help with your game too, but I just don't have the time. I'd like to integrate an online game into the forum at some point, but finding the time to start all of that is hard.

So I decided to start to make a Fringes of Algo RP. Basically I've got a few notes and even a character sheet made up. However with the size of how I want to make this, I'll need a lot of help.

Idea List
  • Make it as if it were a MMO just as a RP version
  • Create a Stat system, preferably through either sentence/post count or some other means to gain experience (Exp)
  • Create a member address system for more depth, wouldn't be able to obtain a member address unless you swap with someone
  • Hold events every now and then just as a real MMO would
  • Each character has a personal log upon which they would record their adventure, this would tell each player what they did on that particular day
  • Create a certain logic in this game such as no being in multiple places at once, more than one thing happening at a time and what not (Mind you this would mean we'd need more than 1 topic for this RP, and that's Thouls call)
  • Create a list of skills which each skill starts at level 1 but can level up as they are used
  • Create character classes which level up and evolve as you gain levels. an example of this would be to start out as a peasant, become a swordsman, blade user, blade master, etc.
  • Create a world with various continents, lands, cities, towns, dungeons, fields, etc.
  • Create a system so NPCs (Non-Playable Character, think enemies, shop owners, etc.) will be strong based off of how strong a PC (Playable character, this would be us Fringers) is. If done properly, some NPC's may actually be able to evolve and level up themselves.
  • Create a time system so we can establish a night/day system which may or may not effect enemy encounters and such

Character Sheet
Well, this is the character sheet I have so far. This is what I have based it upon up to this point for most of the above ideas. I put it in a quote so it'd be easier to read.

Conclusion
AS I said, I need help with this. Mind you, a lot of my ideas may or may not be brought into effect. Heck, this RP may not even get started for awhile. But I need help none-the-less. So please, tell me what you think. Have any ideas? Questions? Comments? Concerns?

Feel free to give me your two cents, after all it's a penny for your thoughts right?

This looks awesome, Atlin. I'll be sure to give my full support when it comes to fruition. Hell, I'll even do the character artwork! I've already got a char in mind. :D

Holding thumbs!

I was thinking more of an actual graphical game, similar in style to the classic PS games. I have some experience working with an online game similar to that (it was grounded more Shining Force really, but not that hard to adapt to PS style). It would have stats, a battle system, and so on.

Just finding the time to get there has been impossible though. It's a full time project and I've been busy with a lot of family issues. Creating the coding is the first hurdle, then I'd need graphics for players, monsters, battlefields, items, menus, shops... you get the idea. Anyway...

That's fine with me. As long as RPs are in the RP section, I don't mind if they're one topic or ten topics.

But still, this is basically just a lesser work version than an actually game. Mind you I could probably start a basis for a MMO, VIA RPG Maker XP.

Either way, we'll just run what we have for now and go from there. I'll start posting some of what I have for some of the ideas list, tomorrow.
