Phantasy Star: Fringes of Algo

In this animation, Lashiec simulates the few steps he takes to approach the party of heroes in Phantasy Star IV. Unlike most characters that walk in the game, Lashiec has only one sprite. Everyone else has several to illustrate the movement of their legs and arms. The former king of Algo only gets to slowly shuffle forward.

Anyone else notice how the earthmen's capes--especially the main earthman's cape--at the end of Phantasy Star II look a lot like Lashiec's cape? I know it's fairly typical Japanese bad guy get up, but I still think it's more than just a coincidence. Dark Force: "OK, everyone. Now that I've totally corrupt...er, healed you, I want you to don these spiky Capes O'Evil so everyone knows you're on Team Darkness." *rolls in a laundry hamper full of capes; earthmen start digging through the pile* Earthman: "Hey, uh, Your Worshipfulness... uh... this one has blood on it already..." Dark Force: "Huh? Oh, my bad. I think that belonged to Lassic. I'm going to resurrect him later and change the spelling of his name, so if you could just trade that one out that would be great, thanks."

I've never noticed it before, but you're right, the capes are similar. I recall reading a theory or story about the Japanese version of PSI's manual saying something about Lashiec's armor being given to him by priests of Dark Force. This would go well with that idea.
